Am still up at this unearthly hour trawling through web sites trying to find out as much as i can about feline anaemia.
The vet has narrowed our cats condition down to this. Her red blood cell count is falling daily and is now at a dangerous level. We have to take her for an emergency appt in the morning.Shes to have more antibiotics and a steroid injection. If this works she will be on predisilone for life as her good blood cells are losing their fight with bad ones.We have to act quickly as she is just going worse and worse.
She's not insured and the costs so far are about £700.i know I should have taken out pet insurance but all our previous cats lived healthy lives to the last.
I feel very stressed by the whole thing.Im just terrified now that she will not last long enough to keep the appt so I'm just watching her as she lies on the sofa looking very depressed.
My family think I'm worrying too much about the cat but I can't help it.I just pray she makes it through the night. She was trying to eat the litter from her tray earlier.Apparently this is a classic sign of a search for minerals.
Thanks for your support in reading this xxx

Its no fun watching a cat possible die. We had a cat once and she was constantly being sick, and a lady down the road had a dog who was being sick
and she a bug that was going round. So i thought that was what our cat had. So off to the vets i went and left her there, only to get a call from the vet to she she was riddled with cancer and what did i want to do. Off cause there was no choice she had to be put down. After the deed was done he brought her home for burial, we had an animals graveyard in our garden as you did back then when i was younger. Do you know i felt like i had murdered that cat. We fot so attached to our pets and whatever we do we don't want them to suffer.
So yes i know the torment your going through. We do whats best for our pets, pity the same can't be said for humans. I hope that if anything like that happened to me they would do the same for me as i did for our cat. I don't think that will happen as they prefer to keep on trying and sometimes thats just not possible.
So if your still awake just to let you know your not alone.

Hi avjh
Hope you are not feeling too bad this morning after a night of no sleep. Let us know how the cat gets on.
You have my sympathy - we had to have our much loved hamster put to sleep last week.Hopefully your vet will be able to help your cat but your obviously doing all you can for her.
Good luck with your appointment - let us know how you get on
I can totally sympathise with you - have 2 cats of my own and they are like my children. I really hope that your vet has managed to do something for her.
My last cat had a brain tumour and kept having fits - spend day and night with him on the floor surrounded in sofa cushions to stop him hurting himself. Not nice.
So sorry to hear about puss cat. As a cat lover myself (with a much loved Burmese) I can understand how you are feeling.
I think you may have to weigh up whether the cat's quality of life is deteriorating and whether it may be kinder to put her to sleep in the long run rather than subject the poor cat to more tests etc,
Have a look on the Feline Advisory Bureau website - they have a fact sheet on anaemia in cats and possible treatments.
Good luck with the cat and I do hope a treatment is found for her quickly so that she doesn't deteriorate any more.
Has there been any sign of kidney troubles as well or is it just the anaemia?
Sending a big hug and a stroke for puss cat. Let us know how she gets on. LavendarLady x
I sure hope she is better this morning. I so sympatize with cat owners. They ARE our children. All our other cats lived to be 15-21 yrs old when the boys were all living at home, and my previous cat was 15 when he developed kidney failure. My daughter-in-law is a Vet, and she would come by with an IV bag of sterile glucose in water and administer it right undfer the skin on his back. That revived him instantly, he'd get up when the drip was done and walk out to his dish and start eating. But, he continued to deteriorate and could only lay somewhere warm, like behind the freezer, against the motor. So I had to tell her it was time to let him go. I will never forget that day.
But, 3 months later, I adopted Bridget and now she is truly my baby girl..I have 4 sons, so of course I baby her and stop and pick her up and hold her whenever she wants me. She stays right here beside me when I am on the computer. So, I gave her her own office chair, with a cozy throw on it and she snuggles there.
Anyways, I do so hope things get better, but sometimes the time comes when it is no longer feasible to hold on, if there is no chance for improving the quality of life.
I just wish they would do the same for humans! Hugs and kitty snuggles from way across the open sea! Loret
Hope your cat pulls through lets is know. ,but you must be strong if her quality of life is going to be poor there is only one kind thing that you can do as hard as it is!
