I quit in November 2007, Thursday 15th to be accurate and I was quite happy to put on a few pounds in order to remain smoke free and then shed them when my quit was well established.
Over the next few months I developed some new bad habits involving grazing on midget gems, fruit pastilles, Doritos, Licorice Allsorts etc and generally eating a little more than I should.
Whenever I had to fill in a form or similar that asked for my weight I'd put 13 stone.
A few months ago, whilst sat in the pub, my long-suffering wife commented that I'd turned into a bit of a fat bast*rd...
To prove her wrong I hopped on the bathroom scales, 14 stone 12 was the depressing response.
To cut a long story short, I've now ditched the useless empty calories, started cycling to work and I'm pleased to say I'm now just a few pounds off my "smoking" weight and wearing my "smoking" clothes that have been tucked away in hiding for the last six years.
So, if, like me, you've added a few pounds during your quit just remember that they don't have to stay with you forever.
