Hello all, I'm back again for my 2nd serious attempt at quitting. The first one lasted nearly 6 months with the aid of Champix and the help of this forum.
I started smoking again on 30th April last year after my neighbour died and then my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer within a week of each other. Mum battled strongly against her disease, but finally lost her fight on 6th April this year. The last words she spoke were to me and they were 'stop smoking'. That was it, no words of love or anything, just stop smoking. It just shows how strongly she felt about it. Probably because she never smoked or drank in her life, and yet she still developed cancer. And I can do something about it.
Anyway, I have completely gone off the rails these last couple of months, but I think it's now time to abide by her dying wishes. I bit the bullet and saw the smoking nurse last week, and am now on day 5 of taking Champix, with no side effects so far.
So I'm aiming for my quit date to be Monday 2nd July, and that will hopefully make me nearly 3 weeks smoke free for what would have been Mum's 75th birthday.
Hopefully you old timers will be along to say hello from time to time (you know who you are ;)) and I look forward to meeting some new freinds on my journey

Welcome back to the forum Rachel. You have been through the mill haven't you. I hope that things start to look up for you, quitting smoking is a good start that is for sure. Good for you!

Excellent
I'll be thinking of you and directing positive thoughts at you in your journey.
No fags since 8pm last night :). Just suffering from severe lack of sleep due to the Champix probably, and a couple of cravings at trigger times. Stuffed my face on cherry tomatoes and fruit instead of my pear drop fix I had last time, so hopefully won't pile on the extra pounds.
Oooh John, don't encourage me to be naughty. There's a cup of tea and half a packet of chocolate crunch creams calling my name from the kitchen (other half was scoffed last night :o)

I'm the other way, I have been calling out into the kitchen for about 20 mins for a cuppa and a piece of cake!
