Terrible day . !!!!!!!!!

Day 2 on the champix for me, and what a day i have had. Whilst at work today i told one of the lads that i was on day 2 of not smoking, he being a non smoker said the usual well done and keep it up. Little did i know the plasterer and his mate had overheard this and obviously thought it would be funny to blow smoke in my face at every concievable chance they got. Obviously this is not funny and i lost my temper. I am ashamed to say i had to throw my hammer at him, it caught him in the chest and winded him, he is ok. The bad news is i may lose this contract as i have been reported to the contracts manager.

Any advice as i am now thinking i should have thrown the rest of my tools at him as well.

Dinnae lose your temper ;)

Actually a hard thing to do. I suppose in one way you have to realise that you are going through an exceptional period...one that is leading you to stop poisoning yourself.

As a constructive suggestion, think about diversionary tactics. Make them before too long and hopefully when the occasion arises again you'll remember one. You got to know that a wind up expects a reaction to take place. If you don't react then you are in a better position than your workmates.

Explain to your contracts manager that you are stopping smoking and if they have consideration they may swing you a bit of leeway.

Read around here and understand what's happen to you in your quit. It does help to put things into perspective and makes your quit that bit easier.

Any advice

Would it be possible to take another set of tools with you, the ones you get in a toy set made out of plastic or cardboard, hopefully these wouldn't hurt people as much.

Stick with it mate, in 3 hrs time another 24 hrs has passed and tomorrow is a brand new day.

We will do it mate.

I feel your pain and hope you contractor is more understanding then my company would be. My problems with anger have been pretty big as well. I can say in my company any violence toward another worker is not tolerated. Its doesn't matter what the reason the person attacking is let go to avoid the company from being sued by the party that was attacked. Good-luck with quitting and try and not let the butt heads get to you

Whilst the plasterer was being a complete dickhead, im would be supprised if you wasnt kicked off site for throwing the hammer at another subbie, potentially the police could also be called as this is a pretty dangerous thing to do.

If not, then your very lucky my friend, and id advise you to calm down.

We all get angry and snap quickly when were giving up smoking, but we don't go around throwing hammers at people.

Can you imagine if that hammer had hit the guy in the face or head? Your'd be doing time.

I would recommend next time throwing some sawdust in his plaster or something, or pissing in his water he uses for knocking up plaster.

good support

Thanks so much for all your support, What i would say is dont think i am a violent thug, which i am sure at least one of you does. If you have ever worked on site, you would know this enviroment is particulary a piss take and wind up industry.

Whilst i am not proud of my actions, i have no remorse in what i did, this man in my book deserved it. one thing for sure, no matter what he wont be blowing smoke in my face again. The thing is that if i did not react, the guy would have carried on till i did react or said sod it. give me a fag.

So, here i sit drinking a glass of wine, with 48 hours of not smoking under my belt, possibly losing the job, and no remorse for my action today. BUT I STILL HAVE NOT REACHED FOR A FAG.

REGARDS 20- 30 A DAY FOR 28 YRS

Hi Carpenter + his Mate :)

Well done both on day 3 now by tonight all nicotine will be gone from your systems just hang in there

Anger is normal at this stage of a quit but throwing hammers as has already been said is a dangerous thing to do

I agree blowing smoke in your face was not funny but could you maybe another time just move away from it if you don't react [difficuly I know] they will soon get fed up with the game

Love

Marg

I wanted to throw a few heavy sharp things in my first few days as well, but went for a walk.

Hows it going today Carps? I have worked with builders/contractors for most of my working life and I know what you mean about what they are like but you are better than them remember that. At the end of the day your going to have the last laugh cos your going to be healthy and bright and they are going to get cancer and well I dont have to spell it out for you.

Keep your chin up mate, your doing really well.

I am on day 2 as well and feel totally the same. My hubby works on site and i think that is just what the lad do to each other although that doesnt help you. You will just have to expalin what happened and lay it on thick. let us know how you got on but dont start smoking again. good luck
