hello i asked my doctor for starter pack of champix. after reading all the horror comments in some sites....im sceptical, cause i also read same ammount of success stories.

i am 25 years old and i have asthma. for the last 3 months my breathing has gotten worse and they started to turn into panic attacks. i went to the hosp 5 times in one month cause i thought i was having an asthma attack (wrong, panic attack). on my last visit last week the docs put me on paxil for it. i told him i still feel tightness in my chest daily and i wanted to quit smoking so he gave me champix too.

i wanted to know if paxil and champix were safe to take at the same time. i mean it should be right, if the doc prescribed me both?

is it a good idea to finish my 24 days left of paxil before i start the champix?

i was planning on taking champix on tuesday the 30th. and quitting on the 6th.

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

I also used champix to help and it worked really well for me with no problems and very few craves

I don't know about mixing champix and paxil but as you said with the Dr prescribing it should be alright, if you're worried about his have a word with the pharmasist at chemist/supermarket they know at least as much about drugs as Dr and maybe more

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

Best Wishes

Hi Pacfan:D

Don't be afraid to take the champix yes there are side effects as with any drug but the only one I had was a little nausea with the morning one but that was solved by taking it later in the morning

Oh one other thing you may find is a little light headed/dizziness for a few days but it will pass quickly OK

Of all the people I know who used it none had serious problems some had like me the nausea and little things

One or two on here had different problems and will probably be around later to tell you about them OK

But most of us found it realy good my son took it and like me no problems at all

As you no doubt know any possible side effect of any drug has to be stated and as you also know they don't apply to everyone so if by any mischance you are worried about anything when you take it see the Dr

I personally would not be afraid to recommend it to anyone and have done so for people I know and as an ex nurse I don't recommend things lightly

I hope this helps you please don't be afraid and quitting the fags will really help that asthma of yours promise

Love

I was on these for a while. They have some nasty side effects though. At one point my anger got so bad I had to stop working for a week. In the end my doctor took me off them. I have been told though some people do have side effects. My mother is on them right now, and she has zero side effects. Suppose it depends on the person though.

Congrats on wanting to quit. I've been smoke free for 7 months now.

Hi Pacfan

I'm on day 9 of Champix and like you I was terrified about taking them after reading about everyones side effects. Felt a little bit light headed for a few days and have the nausea in the morning but et a biscuit before I take it.

My sister and I are doing it together and she has asthma and is doing fine on them.

Just take the plunge and go for it that's what I did and so far I haven't regreted it. On day 9 I have cut down from 40 a day to 10 a day which is a big thing for me.

Good luck.

Hi, I am on champix on day 19. I quit on day 12 as I just got the feeling that I did not want to smoke. I am struggling just a little bit with what to do instead but do not want to smoke at all. I only felt nausea at the beginning but not since stopping smoking. I feel a bit tired but have no other side effects.

Good luck quitting.

Hi Pacfan,

I'm using champix - side effects - well, the first week was great but as soon as I went on to the high dose 2wice a day I began to feel horrible - I felt sick all the time - BUT..... I now only take half a tab a day and I feel GREAT am on day 45.

Sooooo go for it - if you don't like the side effects then stop taking the tablets or alter the dose. Everyone is different so you may not even get side effects, you won't know till you try. :) I can honestly say it's the best thing I've ever done :D

Good luck and keep posting, this site got me and many other through the worst times xx
