This is my first post though I have been reading for a few days. This is my third day smoke free, finding it easy and hard at the same time if you know what I mean. Joined the gym the day I quit (tues) and went again today it does seem to be helping as I felt quite stressed before I went and felt a lot lighter when i came out. Been for a few long walks with the dog when I wanted to run to the shop to buy cigs and felt better when I got back and managed not to get any. My OH smokes roll ups but that isnt bothering me too much as he smokes them without filters etc and they always smelt differnt to my cigs. My main prob is that today I can smell stale smoke in the house and car, Ive washed all my clothes windows, floors but when I walk in I can still smell it even though I always smoked by the back door.

Sorry if this is a bit rambling

Hi name is Mel (the trendy bit is from my surname) tried to put my sig on but it hasnt worked sob.

I always wondered about the roll ups as it never seemed to smell as strong as mine or seem to be as much smoke coming from the cig.

Ive decided to take it one day at a time and change my routine as much as possible.

thanks for the reply;)

Hi Mel

If you don't keep smoking a roll-up - it goes out, yes?

A proper fag, you can light it and leave it and it will burn down to the nub all on it's own - if you look carefully at the burning edge you'll see tiny 'explosions' - this is all manner of chemicls in the paper which keep it burning, but not too quickly - you can appreciate that's quite a trick and requires lots of chemicals to achieve - and there's similar chemicals doing similar jobs in the tobacco itself - which you also don't get in roll-up tobacco. And it's those chemicals which really stink. If you try burning just the paper from a 'proper' fag, compared to burning a rolling paper on it's own - the difference in smell is phenomenal.

(sorry to hijack the thread)

Just out of interest Jim do you know if tailor mades, due to the extra chem's, are worse for you than the rollys? (yes I know they're both really $hitty for you)

Reason I ask is I rolled my own (with filters) and heard conflicting opinions (Even had one fella say that "rollys are better for you than the other ones")

Cheers:)

So, yes, I think, rollies are better for you - but would you think it better to have lung cancer, or end up like the guy above - or to be smoke free and healthy ?

I agree Jim that smoke free is the safe choice :) and personally I would have used the phrase "less bad" but I've dug up a few links

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/...

quitsmoking.about.com/od/te...

smokefree.nhs.uk/resources/...

stuff.co.nz/national/638207

It was always my understanding that rollies being not as bad as tailor mades was a commonly held misconception.

My god i knew none of this . I smoked proper fags and off course I knew there were bad for me but I thought that they were less bad for me than rollies . This just reinforces my willpower not to go back to filling my body full of this crap!!!!

Thanks Jim

Welcome and congrats Trendy on your quit!!!
