Gfr 50 in type 1 diabetic..can gfr improve?

I am type I diabetic and my recent A1c was bad...8. Also my gfr was 50. Kidney functioning was never a problem for 22 years of diabetes. If I reduce a1c, hydrate, eliminate Diet Coke from 3+ habit, should gfr improve?

As diabetes is known to pose a risk to kidneys, if you can tackle the recent rise in A1c, that can only help.  Also drink plenty of water, avoid salt in your diet and have plenty of exercise.   I can't comment on Diet Coke, or any Coke come to that, as personally I have never been a fan!  Good luck with the results of your next blood test.

Dear One,  I think if you observe a proper diet regarding food&beverage and limit your salt and fat and sugar and control your blood pressure, Deo Volente, you will be all right.  I wish you a healthy life.
