I'm 9 mos out from my surgery, and things are going well. So well, in fact, that I emailed the surgeon who performed my transplant, and I asked about my donor. Turns out, my donor was in his 40's or 50's, he died of a traumatic injury, and my kidney spent 4 hrs at the 34Lives center in Indianapolis.

34lives.com is the link to an organization that salvages kidney rejected for reasons related to time. We all know that kidneys have a 20hr shelf life. 34lives puts a kidney on a profusion pump to extend that time. My new bean spent 4 hrs on the profusion pump while they assessed it's function.

Whew. All of that just to ask: For all of you who rec'd kidneys from a deceased donor, how much do you know about your kidney prior to it being transplanted in you? It wasn't urgent for me, but I had a need to find out more about the gift.

If Karma is really a thing, I hope this guy got his own palace in the afterlife.

Hi. All I was told about my deceased donor was that it was "a young man who ran his car into a wall", and that all of his organs were transplanted into people that needed them. I totook, hope that he is in heaven. I have always taken the best care of myself (and this kidney) in order to keep his memory alive.

I am ready to write a letter to the families of my liver donar, and kidney donar. I hope it helps them in some way. I know there are rules etc. I want to say how honored and blessed I feel. I do know from reading surgery notes in my portal at USC, that they were both female, middle aged, and both passed from aneurism complications.

Glad you're doing well, I am thriving as well.
