Peripheral neuropathy

My kidney transplant is failing and I’m having real problems with my feet. Burning and stabbing pain worse at night and keeping me awake.

Over the counter painkillers don’t help so I’m wondering if anyone has this problem and if any drugs help.

Many thanks

Wish I had an answer. Are you getting any information from your doctor? Take care.

Like Eyak1971, I wish I had an answer too. I have some pain in my feet but it's due to a back problem affecting my sciatica nerve. I did a Google search and see, "Foot pain can be a symptom of kidney disease because it can damage blood vessels and nerves in the feet. This can lead to poor circulation, nerve damage, and swelling." Of course, though, I don't know if this is what's happening with you and best to consult your doctor. I do so hope that the pain decreases soon. I'm so sorry about your kidney transplant too. Sending warmth.

Nanatotwo, I suffer from neuropathy as well, going on five years. My trials and tribulations of relief are tramadol 50mg 3x day, low salt, hydrated at all times, a TENS EMS unit and high activity. The tramadol doesn't relieve alone and being active despite the pain is more of a relief than being sedentary. Salt and sugar trigger next level pain. The TENS EMS is suppose to help/reverse, it does work quickly during intense moments...not sure on reversal to date. I received a kidney transplant 2.5 years ago, reverse order of your situation, but maybe this info can help.

Take care

Thanks for your reply. I have been prescribed pregabalin which works for nerve pain which painkillers don’t. Taking it at night so have been sleeping much better and it was approved by my renal pharmacist. Hope this is useful. Keep going!

That is great pregabalin works for you, it did not work for me. Can you take it during the day too? Or is there a 24/7 version you can take? I have had peripheral neuropathy over 20 years and the only relief I get is from Buprenorphine Transdermal Patch - it is a patch I change every 7 days. It is an opioid drug. It does not take away the pain completely, and nothing of course stops the numbness. However, if you are early into the disease, please see a neurologist and have a nerve conduction test done. That is the only way for sure to know what you are dealing with and to get the right diagnosis. There are new solutions but since my damage is so old nothing else works for me. Mine is from diabetes, and I am now in remission from that, but the pain still goes on - sitting, standing, walking whatever. So get it evaluated sooner than later please.

I am just taking it at night at the moment. Mine is due to the kidney failure and will persist for that reason but getting a good nights sleep is essential. Keep going!
