Congratulations on your new blessing!! It is a huge deal and God works miracles! I hope it lasts 20+ years. I had my transplant 12/14/21. Almost at my 2 year anniversary. Praise God. It is a journey. I feel very very blessed. 200,000 transplants last year so I read and 5000 living donor transplants. I was blessed to be one of those. My husband donated. National Kidney Register (NKR) swapped us around because he was not a match for me but, made me go to the top of the list to transplant whilst saving a few others as well. Great program!

I now go monthly for labs and visits are every 3-4 months. I hope you are doing fabulous!!

Congratulations hope I will be able to join you in this journey soon . I also have pkd

For those of you who have pkd and had transplant if you were one to get flank pain from pkd , did your pain less after transplant. Reading differnt thing am I correct does your pkd kidney shrink some ?

The journal I have read they don’t take out pkd kidneys unless they are huge and causing problems . So just wander zookeeper does pkd feel any differnt after transplant .

I had a kidney transplant when I was 70 in 2019. That was almost 5 years ago. I've had my ups and downs: several UTIs, weeks in the hospital with Covid, etc. But considering my age I'm doing well. I wish you all the best and I will pray for you.

Hi Ynnep, what were your symptoms like with covid19 and why did you need to be admitted in hospital and for how long? My spouse has PKD and had his transplant 5 yrs later this month when he was 59 yrs old. We still live like it is March 2020 still due to covid19. Just curious about your covid19 situation. I appreciate any details. thanks

Cough, headache, loss of memory. I was so sick I don't remember going to the ER. My husband took me. My next memory was waking up in the hospital with several IVs. I was told that I had been in isolation for almost 2 weeks. My husband and son could see me thru a window. When I was able, we talked on the phone. This happened December 2022. I was able to get home in time for Christmas. I'll pray for your husband. 🙏

Hi Zookeper. Hope you are well. I had a transplant three years ago. At the same age .69. I am doing fine. All my bloods are good and the nephrologist told me my kidney would outlive the rest of my body!!

Takes about a year to normalise things but then works for me. Watch vitamin D as that can be an issue and avoid high fibre foods or your gastro intestinal problems will worsen. Good luck for the future.

Best wishes

Sean

Hi👋

Congrats on the new kidney! My first year anniversary (I can’t believe it’s coming up to a year already) is Nov 16th.

How did your surgery go? How are you feeling?

I have PKD and had my transplant from a living donor in Jan 2023. Almost coming up on my 1st Anniversary. I am 72 and feeling really good. I struggled with approximately 10 UTI’s and now seem to have it under control. My bloodwork is excellent. I never had flank pain and my kidneys were not that large. My transplant doctor told me my native kidneys would eventually stop working and would shrink. Good luck and make sure to take your immuno drugs every 12 hours on time. Eat healthy and exercise. Enjoy your new lease on life and feel blessed to have received such a great gift.
