Outside food: hi i hope you all are doing... - Kidney Transplant
Outside food
I eat out once in a while but if too often my numbers drop also drop with viruses which I think might be more from eating out. Lots of water and greens they pop back so far thankfully
What’s outside food?
I eat out some…but due to unwanted foot additives …I prefer to cook for myself. High sodium, MSG, too much oil, & food preservatives are not good options for us. I also eat mostly organic fresh produce without the chemical sprays…& most restaurants do not serve organic. A splurge once in awhile is not a bad thing…ie..pizza, enchiladas, salad or a big yummy order of fries!
Good luck!
I am 8 months post and I was told by my hospital to not eat any uncooked fruits or vegetables out. Said they need to be cleaned properly with vinegar and water mixture. As long as it’s cooked it’s fine.
My hubby's transplant center said to be careful the first few months because he was on sky-high immunosuppressants. Later the rules eased. He currently eats out at restaurants, often ordering salads and healthy menu items that are low sugar/low carb since his diabetes returned with the transplant. After his immunosuppressants were lowered to optimum levels, he was told to go ahead and enjoy life. He assumes stomach acids and similar processes returned around then to neutralize unfriendly bacteria, etc. in meals outside our home. He's very mindful, of course, that anything he orders is "genuine", not laced with preservatives, etc.
Yes I too, pretty much eat whatever I want, including sushi and salads from the outside restaurants. The only thing changed is that I am picky about the quality of restaurants and their rating to ensure I don't get sick from bad food.
We do that too. Our "daring" days are over when we hopped into greasy spoons, etc. just for the fun of it. We mostly stick to mid-tier restaurants (Olive Garden, Chilis, Asian hibachi places, etc.). When in a big rush, some fast food places offer nice salads and grilled chicken, etc. such as Wendys, KFC, some Latin pollo places. We try to get out of the house daily - usually for a coffee at nice coffee shops. We don't appreciate people coughing near us so we often go a bit earlier or a bit later than most. We appreciate places that have booths with tall separators but few places have those.
yeaa i have transplant 7 yrs agoo so this year i started
I don’t eat out much, but when I do I tend toward things that have been recently cooked and avoid fresh fruits and veggies.
That always feels strange though because I end up eating something like fish and chips because I assume the frying is killing bacteria. It is, of course, high salt and fat.
I eat very healthy food at home so it is just an occasional splurge. It does seem ironic though that the healthy (fresh) foods are ones that I feel I have to avoid at a restaurant.
Eat whatever your heart desires, enjoy your life....tomorrow is promised too no one!! Take this message, from someone who has been too HELLand back..
