I recently was speaking with a recent kidney transplant recipient, and he has memory lapses, sometimes forgetting conversations he's had. His nephrologist said it can be the Tacro as it is one of the possible side effects. He's being switched to another medication.
I had not heard this, and just assumed my forgetfulness was just part of aging. Wondering what others might have experienced.

I can say that I felt dingier than usual. I had trouble thinking of words. I also got the tremors in my hands from the Tacralimus. They have gotten much better. My doctor said it would take 2 years to completely recover and he was right. That’s how long it took me to really feel like myself again. My tests have been great all along and I feel great. Be sure to drink your water. That’s #1 with me.
Hi. It's my wife who had the transplant 18 months ago. I've not heard of those memory problems with Tacro before. She does not have any problems like that but does have bad shakes with the Tacro and Prednisolone. I am not aware of any real alternative to Tacro that works as well for immuno suppression. She was on Mycophenolate as well before the steroid as an immuno but as she has had the Epstein Barr Virus from the transplant the docs said it could cause it to flare up.
I have had memory lapses that I believe are caused by meds. But more issues with crabbiness and lack of energy and also my hands shake. I'm almost at the 4 year anniversary.
I am 71, and am 14 months post transplant. I am on tacrolimus. My dad had dementia in his early 60’s, so I am tuned in to this. I really haven’t noticed any major change since the transplant. As reported by the others, I do have tremors, but not really bothersome, as I am retired.
Hello, Congrats on your transplant. I also experience memory fog. It’s been going on 9 yrs for me and i’ve noticed a significant change in my short term memory. I’ve created new routines and habits so i can recall events and moments.
Definitely causes brain fog and forgetfulness and at first i dudnt even realize i was screwing up things at work till i'd go back on ny computer and see tge mistakes😒
My moto at the moment ‘my memory is shot!’ I struggle to remember a lot of things, conversations, names, words, tasks etc. I always have to write things down to remember what I need to do. Been on tacro since 2016
Hi. I am with the. rest of the group. On Taco and prednisone and mycophenalatic acid. sp? Absolutely ,Transplant 1 yr.. 4 months ago, Worse I had to turn over my medication schedule one to my husband as I keep tripping over the hour I had to take my medication. This is very dangerous. Luckily my daughter put a timer on my phone otherwise I would be cooked. This is the most serious thing you cannot mess up. Keep a daily journal, make a tap recording on your phone, Text yourself or email yourself. It' stressed me out horrifically but now IT is what it is. My fear is am I slipping into dementia or is it the meds. IT's frustrating for my. husband, He can't believe it sometimes. I have explained until he walks the walk you just won't understand. HE thinks he's bionic and Neve will ever be sick or have memory loss. I think he's alien. I was told by my doctor in some patient is clear up and and in some it just doesn't. People around you can't believe you can't recall simple things. Hey I haven't forgotten how to cook. That's a good thing. IT's difficult accepting memory loss. But as long As I don't forget my grandson 3 yr old I am fine. I am alive and grateful. I find listening to Singing bowels music on YOU TUBE Helps me to relax. Who care what people say. Don't let that be a stressor. You are alive. AMEN
