Allograph biopsy scheduled

Hi all, I have a biopsy of my transplanted kidney scheduled for next Wed, July 20th. In on of my support groups, the moderator said if they offered meds to relax me, I should accept them, so I have arranged for a friend to drive me. I'd love to hear about your experience from those that have post-transplant biopsies.

Over 30 years ago I had a biopsy of my native kidney (which diagnosed the FSGS), and I don't remember having the option of a relaxation med. I believe they numbed the area before sticking the needle in, but it still felt like I was hit with a cattle prod or I was being tazed. Not the most uncomfortable thing, but not something I would want to do often. My recollection is the worst part was having to lay still for 4 hours while they continued to pump IV fluids in me. At some point, my bladder demanded relief and their solution was a bed pan, while lying down at a 45 degree angle to the side. Yeah, that didn't happen.

I was told I would get more information before the procedure, but nothing beats the personal experiences of those who have been there. So, tell me YOUR story!

My kidney is still pretty new to me, so I don't have input. Sorry.Regarding the whole bedpan thing, you might want to see if a shewee might be an option??? I've never used one, and I am not sure if it would even work given the position you described, but it might work. I'd try to practice with one before you have to try to use it for real.

I have had 2 biopsies in the last 6 months both with no meds at all. First was routine after transplant. Second was after my number in creatine and bun jumped after a virus and my sugars starter to rise. First was easy great doctors second was not felt pain not good local numbing by newby doctor. I know this procedure was done out of an abundance of caution but it came back no rejection for which I am thankful! I do however believe this show always be a last resort as you know this lessens the health of our transplanted kidney. Common sense tells me that anyway.
