I don’t understand. What is so difficult about the test? Really all you have to do is just show up for it. The doctors and nurses do the rest. Of course you have to be poked and prodded.

Yes. Ask your husband‘s nephrologist where you should go for this. Sorry I didn’t understand that’s what you meant.

Has your husband been evaluated at a Transplant Hospital yet? Is he on the Kidney Wait List yet?

He will need a referral to Hospital from Nephrologist. Once they accept your hubby, they give you a phone number to arrange evaluation and testing to see if you are a match.

I'm not sure, but I doubt anyone would clear you for donation until they approve your hubby. It is a long process (but shorter for donor).

Hello deedee-dee, your spouse has to be on the wait list and when my spouse was on the wait list i wanted to see if I could be his donor. The first thing transplant clinic told us in VT was that I could not donate because our blood types were not compatible. SO that ended that. But in 2017 we were told about a "swap' program I could try. for example: if I tested and matched with another person waiting for a kidney and their partner in the SWAP also testeed and matched my spouse, the swap of live kidneys would happen at the same time. I know there are more details than this, but this is just a quick explanation. My spouse who needed the kidney would not allow me to try this SWAP because he did not wish me to have major surgery for the first time in life at age 58 . IF something went wrong in this SWAP, he told me he could not live with this outcome. So I was very unhappy he said this, but I abided by his wishes and we waited for a deceased kidney transplant which my spouse did receive 18 months later. Ask your transplant clinic about this SWAP process if your blood type is not a match to your spouse. My sister in law WAS a match for her husband who needed a kidney transplant and things worked out great for her and my brother in law. THe kidney was viable for 17 yrs. I wish you the best.
