I was overweight before transplant and lost 40 lbs to have transplant. I’m having a hard time keeping my weight down. I wear a Fitbit and I am active. I also use app logging in my foods. Only 1:30 pm and I already have 9,100 steps today. Any suggestions. I eat healthy. Try to avoid carbs.

You had a purpose to lose 40 lbs - to have a transplant. That is the easy part - maintaining that or losing some more is much harder.

1. I completely change my lifestyle and diet 20 years ago until it became second nature.

2. I stopped using calories counter App. It just stress me out. Instead I plan meals in days. It is easier to control.

I also complete 80% of my exercise in the morning - it is the same time I plan my day (thinking and strategizing). I still work BTW (66 years old)

3. I plan a balance diet - I eat anything allowed. And I eat only 1 big breakfast and 4-5 small meals and snacks spread over 8 hours.

BTW, I also do intermittent fasting everyday. After my 9 am meds and 2 hours before 9 pm meds. So, no food intake from 7pm to 9am

4. I drink at least 2.5 liters of water. When I feel hungry but not yet time to eat, I drink water instead.

5. It takes a lot of discipline and years of practice ( It's s lifestyle). But I maintained this for years. My stomach has adjusted and I cannot eat too much anymore. And even my taste has adjusted - I find many of the food served at foodcourt and fastfoods salty, greasy and fatty - I used to love them.

6. Finally, I look at food as sustenance, less to enjoy. So, I don't crave for the food I used to love before.

- I still have 4 cheat days a month. I sometimes use 1 or 2 days. It helps strengthen my discipline to prove that I am not losing anything by not being able to est junk food everyday.

I was underweight before the transplant and am now 50lbs., overweight. It is a struggle. The tricks I used to lose weight when I was younger don't work anymore. I currently don't have an appetite and still can't lose weight. I am on meal replacement shakes twice a day combined with one small meal. At the end of the first weigh in I only lost one pound. So frustrating. Because of other medical issues my exercise regimen is non existent so that could be a contributing to the issue.

Anti-rejection meds supresses our body functions like metabolism, that's one reason it hard to lose weight.
