In January 2017 my doctor was concerned about my health since i had put on 60 lbs over the last couple of years. He recommended I try a program which I love and has helped me lose 50 lbs so far. My goal now is to help others lose weight and be a support. I am starting my 18th year with my kidney transplant and hope to keep it much longer!
Lost weight and feel great: In January... - Kidney Transplant
Lost weight and feel great
What program are you using? I’m soon starting my 16 th year and I need to lose 30 pounds. Thanks.
That’s wonderful,I also need to lose some weight, my sugar level is above normal & Iknow if I lose weight it would help. Would like to know the program your using. Thank you
What program are you using. It’ll be 3 years next July since I had my transplant. My doctors have given me the go ahead to have another baby. I want to start working on loosing about 60lbs. Can you please share?
kahn2000 and anyone else reading this post, every person is different, but I recently went on a plant-based diet. I’m currently End Stage, and I wish I would have done this diet two years ago. I’ve seen my BUN go from 50+ down to 23(been 10 years since it’s been in normal range), my creatinine go from 6 down to 4.8, and my GFR go from 10.9 to 13.2 in just 8 weeks. I will admit this change has delayed the need for dialysis. It’s eliminated edema in my ankles, joint aches and pains, and I have more energy. I don’t want to go to bed at 2 pm. I can now go a full day. I would talk to your nutritionist about going plant-based. My nutritionist two years ago said I could still eat some meat (mostly chicken, fish and a little red meat, no pork), even though I asked should I just go vegan or vegetarian. I think there is resistance since the American diet is meat heavy, but if you look at societies that use meat as only flavoring, they have lower incidences of disease such as heart disease. You can get all the protein you need from plants, just make sure you take a multivitamin that has B-12. After 12 days you won’t miss meat. I plan to continue with a plant-based diet to protect the future kidney I’m hoping to receive next month from a friend. Some books The PlantPower Way, Make Ahead Vegan, The Vegan Slow Cooker and Fresh From The Vegan Slow Cooker. I hope that helps, and best of luck.
CNeb, With one kidney and an estimated GFR of 27-29, I am following a renal diet:
Low sodium, phosphorous and potassium. I get my protein from scrambled eggs or a 5 oz can of albacore tuna on a large leafy salad. I know there are a couple of professional athletes who are vegans. Except for the eggs or tuna, I eat plants. You are on the right path to health! Congratulations.
What did you do to lose the weight? I too am 18 years post transplant and have put on 40 pounds. Congrats on the weight loss! That is awesome.....
Congrats on 18 years!!
Thank you so much for inquiring about my program. I have been working with a health coach to design the best program for me, and I've since become a health coach to help others do the same. Can we set up a time to talk to explore how we can help you?"
Wow! congratulations all around! And especially for 18 years!
Wow congratulations! I would like to know what plan you used. I also have gained extra weight in the last couple of years. Again congratulations.
I'm a male. 6.0' tall. Twenty years ago, I had let my weight reach 310 pounds. Type 2 diabetes was one of the results. I have held my weight at 185 pounds for the last 5-6 years. Losing the 125 pounds was in stages -- not all at once. 6 weeks ago, I tripped, fell and broke my femur (thigh bone). The fall was 1,000 miles from home. After surgery I had intense physical therapy in the hospital for 3 weeks. Of the 12 patients in the rehab ward with me, two were grossly obese, and 4-5 were fat by any standard. We patients were 60+. Thank God, I was no longer 310 pounds!!! Extra weight means a tougher recovery. About 40 pounds of my loss resulted from a weight-loss "contest" among my YMCA water aerobics class. kahnw2000, congratulations on your 50-pound loss.
Hello! That's fantastic. I need to lose weight as well. I need to shed at least 30lbs. Can you please let me know what the program is?
I worked with a free health coach who designed a program for me. Each person is different. What i love about the program is the constant support and community. My email is eandjkahn@gmail.com
I'd also like to know what your diet program is. I'm struggling with weight issues. I'm in a " funk " . I would love to hear any advice you have. Thanks a bunch !

Could you please also send me the info? Thank you!!
