Hi everyone! I had my quarterly Nephrology appointment today. I am a kidney transplant recipient from 1999 - ya, 21+ years ago.

There were a lot of questions and discussions on this site about the COVID vaccine and should you get it or not. My nephrologist has a friend who is also a nephrologist in New York city area. So, they did a study there regarding COVID and CKD. Remember, when there a huge surge of COVID last year in New York, they have statistics now that 1 out of 4 dialysis patients that came down with COVID were hospitalized and died. Of transplant recipients 1 in 5 were hospitalized with COVID and died. Don't know about you, but those are not good odds!!! I don't want to be one of those statistics!

I got my first vaccine shot of MODERNA on Jan 13th and will get my second shot this Wednesday, Feb 10th. I had no problems, not even a sore arm. He suggested that we continue to wear masks until more people in the US have had the vaccine or have immunity.

If you are still in doubt, please talk to your nephrologist. Please be SAFE!!

I am two years out and my nephrologist in NYC said to get the vaccine. Had the first shot three weeks ago. Some arm pain and a little achy. Second shot this Thursday.

WYOAnne, thanks for the info - good reminder for us all to still take it seriously. I at least have a date for the first shot, just have to wait till April, but can wait since people like my mother and MIL are those in front of me and more at risk of covid complications than I am. Be Safe

I am CKD 3b and got both shots of Pfizer Vaccine and have had very limited side effects, mainly some fatigue, but I am 79 so could be what is expected.

I get my 2nd shot of Moderna tomorrow. Can't wait to get past this and go on with LIFE.I am 70 and hope to go on with no big problem.

It is not hard to guess that covid is more deadly for transplant sufferers. My brother(Healthy) and I had chickenpox last year He got rid of it easily compared to me. After what I saw while I had chickenpox I believe covid would kill me due to the transplantation medicines. It is bad to have a bad immune system even a small cold made me always stay at the hospital thanks to the medicines. I cannot live properly in winter even summers I got cold with small windy airs. I cannot eat properly as I wish cause I got food poisoning while my friend ate same meal did not get sick. Anyway, Some studies show covid mortality of about 20-25 percent for transplant Sufferers.

Stay well my friend! I just turned 70 and am hiking in the mountains whenever I can. This time of year WY has been below zero temps so have been walking inside in the mall. Keep up your stamina.Thinking of you and wishing you the very best!
