Retaining fluid

I am 1 1/2 years post transplant. Over the last several days I have gained at least 8 lbs of fluid. I called my Nephrolegist and was given more fluid pills. Has anyone else ever had this problem with a transplant?

I am 8 &1/2 yrs post transplant. after 3 rejections over the yrs, my creatnine is 2.5. I have retained fluid for the last 2 yrs. my DR. says I have 30 lbs of fluid. I have been taking lasix daily for the last few months to keep it at bay. My GFR is 25%. What is your creatnine? Good Luck!!

That's a little high, talk to your Dr. Mine is high because my last rejection was the BK Virus coming back. It did come down from 3.2 & is holding steady at 2.5

I am 20+ years post transplant and have fluid retention problems off and on. I know when I fly on a plane the next day I usually need to take a diuretic (lasix).

A couple of years ago I was taking lasix daily. Now it has settled down a bit, but still need to take the diuretics every 3 days or so. When I have labs run my creatinine is 0.8-1.0, but my BUN usually shows that I am dehydrated even though I drink plenty of water everyday. My nephrologist feels that there may be a narrowing of the ureter leaving my kidney. All is well though since my creatinine is great!

Yes. If your nephrologist tells you your kidney is functioning well, then watch the salt. There is salt in everything. Watch the carbohydrates as well. I retain fluid on my ankles and fingers. I had to stop my diuretic due to some less than optimal labs. I really notice fluid retention if I eat out or when I used to fly. I have to watch what I eat all the time. I can't eat whatever I want. Try to get a handle on what you are eating and drinking. Maybe log your food/drink intake for awhile. Hope this helps. No one likes excess fluid.

My doctor increased my Torsemide fluid pills and that did the trick. Also I'm watching salt intake.
