I'm almost a year from my kidney transplant, and have begun to have headaches and dizzy spells, especially after sleeping a while. Will this get better? I feel like someone that's had too much to drink when the dizzy spells start.

Headaches and dizziness
Wow, this just happened to me today and I'm about 6 months out from transplant. I woke up from a nap and was dizzy suddenly. I'm wondering if it's partly the anti rejection meds maybe?
I am 10 months out. I used to have these issues for the first four months and then felt much better until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting headaches and a little bit of dizziness and even some nausea for good measure. It mostly occurs in the mornings. Cannot tell you why but you are not alone
My first question to you, is why if you have had a transplant why are you still taking sodium bicarb tabs?
After a transplant you still need to keep drinking enough water everyday. If I don't drink enough water one day, the next I will be light headed and will even start to get a migraine.
If you continue to have this issue, make sure you tell your transplant team. It could be an issue with your anti-rejection meds too.
For awhile too, I had an issue with my new kidney not concentrating my urine like it should. So I peed a lot and got dehydrated very easily.
But these are all problems that your transplant team should be working out with you.
I am 20 years post transplant and am doing well. But remember...to always talk about problems with your medical team!
Hi my name is Dave was on dialyses for 8 yrs had tx 19 months ago and im doing fantastic💪 I get the same way but usually only lasts a few minutes ive come to believe its side effects of one of my meds but you never know? Have you talked to your team?
Your body is going through an adjustment be sure to drink lots of water. Listen to your body. Discuss all issues with your doctor.
Hi! I am 2.5 years post-kidney transplant and doing great! The first year or so I experienced these dizzy spells. When I had them they lasted just a few seconds and usually would happen when I was doing something, but not from sleeping. I think it was my body getting used to my meds. Also, the meds sometimes fluctuate during the day and may have highs and lows depending on hydration, foods eaten, activity levels, etc. I would mention to your transplant team. I haven't felt a dizzy spell in probably close to a year. I wish you well!
Hello kimosabi1961, How scary for you. I too suffer from dizziness but only after sitting and reading for awhile. It's very bad as I have fallen twice and my husband has had to walk me to the bathroom on many occasions. I have reported to the Kidney Transplant Center and their only response has been to be careful. My cardiologist has said, I should sit up straight and breath deeply for 2-5 minutes. That advise has been of minimal help. I find this problem to be very strange as I have been reading for many years and have never had a problem. If anything reading is very relaxing and should help rather than hurt you.
