I’m traveling to Thailand in September and I need to two vaccines: MMR and Varicella. I received my kidney transplant in 4/2007. What should I do ? I remembered being vaccinated back in the early 70s but I can’t find my records. I took the blood test and my results was negative.

Vaccines
Hi Deelyn21,
Who said you needed those vaccinations? I’m going to Thailand in December?
Thanks,
Peter
Recommended vaccines to individuals entering into the country for health concerns.
You need to check with your transplant team, if the vaccinations are necessary and then if OK for you too have? Usually, unless it is a "live" virus the vaccinations are OK. But please check with your transplant team
By the way, didn't you ever have chicken pox as a child? That's the Varicella vaccine
I was told no. We had an issue when we were in high school back in 1988 something about the booster (mmr) not being good when we were little and there were a whole boatload of us who had to have the booster again. This was our senior year and all of us were scrambling to get it redone cause it had to be in the records for those of us going to college. I hadnt even had my transplant yet and my nephrologist said no..its live u cant have it. And i know they tell u to be careful around babies who are getting shots/boosters etc.
I hope this does not deter you from going. I was told by my doctor to not get live vaccines for which MMR and Varicella are both. Because of the worldwide prevalent of these diseases, it is possible for an outbreak to occur where you are going. I wish you luck on future endeavors and congrats on sustainability of your kidneys function.
