How wonderful! Happy kidniversary to you and your amazing brother. May I ask what meds you are now on and whether you have developed any issues at all. My brother gave me a kidney in 1998 which lasted 21 years; it was doing brilliantly until I devoloped a nasty E Coli infection which damaged our kidney. It was wonderful to have this generous gift for so long. Congratulations on the fabulous longevity of your gift of life.
Hi ,my meds are two 50mg azathioprine per day ,which is a low amount as we were a good match. I'm very carful on what I eat and drink ,I think that helps.
In 2005 I had melanoma and nothing barr that ,but might have been all the strong sun in africa years ago and nothing to do with my tabs.
Congratulations...I'm so happy for you. I'm two year post transplan. Can you please share your life style, food habits and other things that should follow to maintain a healthy transplanted kidney.
Hi Nazzz,Thanks for your kind words, food and drink is my number one priority, my hobbies are fishing ,gardening and photography and enjoy every moment. I'm very fortunate to be on a low amount of Azathioprine only 2 50mg tabs a day .
Take care

PS would take time to write down my foods and drinks so will work out something.
Happy 45th kidney anniversary to you and your brother! What a life saving hero your brother has been! May you have many more years of kidney transplant joy and thankfulness. Both you and your brother are an inspiration. My son is my living kidney donor hero and we are 4 years post transplant. We are doing great. Living kidney donors are such blessings in our lives!
Wow—that’s all I can say. What an incredible story! Hopefully you and your brother were able to do something special to celebrate this amazing anniversary.
CONGRATULATIONS!! I can imagine and know the feeling. I am 43 years with a cadaver ( rec'd it on Valentine's Day, 1976.) I hope that I would live your 45 years and beyond (smile).
I wish you many, many more years of great health. Way to GO!!
Yes, I know what you mean about "...one day at a time." I had a transplant in 1999, so in October it will be my 20th Kidney Anniversary! My donor was a 16 year old deceased donor. I too am grateful for every day and try to live life to the fullest. I too enjoy fishing, gardening, traveling and hiking in the mountains.
Wow! 45 years is a blessing!! Congrats to you and your brother!! God has blessed both of you!! Continue on with what has been working!! And please do share your secret of success for us others striving to make it every day. It’s been 13 years for me and I say my prayers every day!! So happy for you and your brother!! Keep it up!!
Yes my brother and I have been blessed in Many ways, getting my life back was just so special . Its so important for all of us to do our bit by giving our new kidney the best care and attention it deserves in the way of food and drink, also enjoying what life offers without going overboard. Having a hobby that you enjoy can make all the difference. We all have different outlooks on life ,no one person is the same, what works for me might not work for the next person, but being positive is a big plus. Wish you a long journey.
