Hi everyone! We have a new HealthUnlocked member that is trying to figure out if he is the longest living kidney transplant survivor. He goes by "geneball" and had his transplant on June 2, 1973, YES I said 1973!!! He will soon celebrate 45 years!!! Is there anyone out there that had their transplant before "geneball?" or do you know of someone ?

To me, he is an example for all of us! If we take care of ourselves and take care of this "miracle" gift..... who knows.....He had his transplant at one of the best transplant centers in the country! Yes, I had my transplant at the same "best" transplant center - U of WI Hospital in Madison, WI

Johanna Leanora Rempel (née Nightingale, b. Mar. 24, 1948) of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, received a kidney transplant from her identical twin sister Lana Blatz, on Dec. 28, 1960 at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. I last saw the category in Guinness 2004 (published Aug./Sept. 2003), so she had likely lived with the transplant for some 42 years by then. Don't know for sure, but they didn't start really doing living donation until the 90's. 45 years ago I am sure it was from a cadaver.

Congratulations on 26 years! That is truly something to be proud and thankful for! I am still blessed to have 18 years post transplant!

How absolutely amazing! I've had my kidney 8 years this year and although everything has been great for me, I started thinking about what could happen if I lost it. Reading this post sure made me feel positive!

He is truly blessed!

Gosh I get excited about my transplant it is 26 years now and I thought that was a long time

I have had lots of health problems over the years and thought how strong the kidney was to keep going through all of the problems I had

I say a big thank you every day to the donors so people out there please take care of what you have been given

Well 42 years on the first kidney and I'm at 6 years on the second , 48 years !

Didn't you say that you had your transplant at the #1 Kidney Transplant Center in the US - U of WI Hospital & Clinics? Yes, that is rated #1 in the country. I had mine there in 1999!!
