Does anyone know if donating a kidney means you're considered to have a "preexisting condition" (one kidney) when you try to buy health insurance?

Kidney Donation and Health Insurance
Good question! And the answer is NOPE! They just passed a law in congress that donors are protected from that sort of crap. You also get priority for a kidney if you were ever to need one. You go strait to the top of the list. Congress is also trying to pass family medical leave (paid) for all organ donors. And employers are not allowed to discriminate because you need time to donate, or their employer healthcare is giving you problems. And by the way, the recipients insurance pays for everything! Before during and after. So donors are completely protected. Im not sure how long the law protects workers for recovery. Usually a donor needs 1-2 weeks. Depends if your job is very physical. Like heavy lifting or driving. If your job or insurance is giving you grief for donating, then they are breaking the law and will get in serious trouble!
