In need of help: Hi am 54 yrs old and am... - Kidney Transplant
In need of help
OK so you need to start telling everyone your story and your need for a kidney. Before my transplant I told friends, neighbors, people at work, at church, etc. If you are looking for a living donor, you pretty much have to do your own search. I have heard of people putting out yard signs, church bulletins - of the need for a kidney. There was a man who had a t-shirt made or his need for a kidney and wore it to Disney. He found a donor. For a deceased donor, your nephrologist will refer you to a transplant center where you will be put on the UNOS list for a kidney.
I am almost 19 years post transplant and am living life to the fullest!
Best of luck to you. Let us know how you are doing?
Keep positive--get a friend/relative to help you advocate-it is something you can't do on your own. Check with the local NKF office and ask them if there is any Big Ask/Big Give presentations being done in your area. I helped in the development of this program which is designed to help you advocate and find a living donor. You will find lots of information there. It will help you make a plan. The efforts you put into this will make a difference--it did for my son who I found a living non-related donor for. Let me know how this goes for you.
I might have a potential doner. On Saturday a friend of mine posted my info on face book. And within a few min some one responded with the same blood type, and said she is willin to do it. She just need info on the procedure..
Good luck πππ
