I am 65 and an altruistic donor. They just approved me to be a donor. What will come next and how long might it be? Paired or one to one was agreed on.

There are so many people waiting, I can’t imagine it would be long. Thank you for being a donor. I donated in 2015 and would do it again. Best of luck.

I donated to my husband on 04/10/2017 at age 60. The surgery was much easier than I thought. I felt discomfort for 3 weeks, then back to normal. Had all my energy back by 6 months. I feel so thankful that my husband is no longer on dialysis. If I had another extra kidney I would give again! You are amazing for being an altruistic donor and will save not only the recipient's life, but the quality of life for their whole family!

I hope you don't mind if I recommend a book to you. It has been very helpful to my daughter who is approved to donate to our grandson. The book is The Kidney Donor's Journey...100 Questions I Asked Myself Before Donating My Kidney by Ari Sytner. The book is well written and very informative to any donor and/or recipient. Mr. Sytner was an altruistic donor himself, so I am sure you might find it helpful.

As someone who is living through this process, I want to say thank you for volunteering and testing to be an altruistic donor. I hope one day you know how much this decision means to the family of a kidney disease patient...and to the patient.
