Eplet matching and donation

Does anybody here have any experience or information about kidney donation and eplet matching? I am a match for my intended recipient and eligible to donate, however I am a "high eplet mismatch". The coordinator said it is not an "absolute contraindication" to donation but if we do the paired exchange program we could find a donor who is a low eplet mismatch, which would optimize post-transplant results. However, I am very young and in perfect health, and she said they are also very likely to have great results with my kidney. The medical team wouldn't give me any more information when I asked about the pros and cons of using eplet matching because it is a new test that they are using. I only want my recipient to have the best outcomes possible. My recipient also refuses to resort to dialysis, so we're afraid that if we use the voucher progam they may need to go on dialysis short term while we find a match. Any information to help us make an informed decision is appreciated.

You're on the right track in my opinion.... do MORE research at National Kidney Registry as they are the "owners" of the voucher program you mentioned...they do GREAT work and provide the BEST MATCHES for each donation. Ask them about the timing using the voucher program as well - if you donate first then your original intended recipient uses the voucher to get a kidney. WWW.KIDNEYREGISTRY.ORG

Hello, I’m donating in a few weeks via the National Kidney Registry voucher program. I had not thought to ask how long the average recipient waits for a paired exchange match, but maybe I can during my next interaction. I do know that with my blood type being O they told me to expect they’d find me a recipient quickly (it took less than 2 weeks), if that information is worth anything to you. The donor chain I’m a part of is three pairs (three donors, three recipients).

is there a way to request that the original intended recipient get the kidney first - then you the donor donate your kidney. I am hoping to be exact match for my intended recipient. If it does not work out that way, I would like to via the voucher program make sure that original intended recipient get the transplant before I donate my kidney. I think there are two voucher programs which I find a bit confusing.

I would like to know more about the eplet matching too. Did you find more info out? Have you donated yet?
