Using bags for 2nd night with cycler

Husband is on Liberty cycler, gets 8000ml (using two bags) overnight. Second bag is over half full in morning. Any evidence that using the 2nd bag the next night would be a problem?

Yes I plan to ask the Dr/Nurses.

Yes I am aware of health protocols.

I am looking for first hand experience or clinical readings. Have been unable to find anything with web searches that address this issue.

Thanks,

Cheryl

My husband always used fresh bags every night -the bags were paid for anyway. He suggests calling your PD nurse about the safety of using a partial bag. In the meantime, maybe someone on this community will hop into this dialogue with a better answer.

No, you throw it out. No cutting corners.

I am concerned about peritonitis as a side effect of PD. I'm especially careful with cath site care every day and clean the connection for the full 2 minutes. As the dialysis fluid is high sugar I would suggest that reusing the bag, even if you are extremely careful to maintain as sterile field as possible would not be wise. Each bag has an extra fill of about 100 cc per the propaganda sheet that comes in the box, so there should be some fluid left in one bag after pd treatment. I use the left over fluid to water my plants, and they seem to doing well with it.

Please throw it out daily. You don't want to risk infection. My supplier offers 6 liter and 3 liter cycler bags. Since you seem not to like waste, ask our supplier and/or your PD team if that is an option.

Good luck. Be safe.
