Just entering your situation. My husband is getting a graft put in next week for hemo dialysis. He wants to do pd next year as an option. Have a meeting next week to talk about transplant also.

How has pd affected your everyday life?

Hi! When your husband transitions to PD, make sure you/he asks the PD nurse at your dialysis center for the "best" surgeon to put in that catheter. Some are much better than others at pinpointing the location and placing the tubing. The PD nurse will know exactly which surgeon does the best job.

Thank you. We did get a top surgeon for his graft surgery coming up. We havent asked if he also does pd since it’s in the near future.

Hello! He has been on PD for the past 6 months and I would say the biggest change in his life is adapting being on the dialysis machine for 10 hours at night. Otherwise, everyday life is about the same for us. Hope your husband is able to move forward to a transplant list.

welcome hope your husband able to stay on pd. I was on it year and half until I got a fungal infection from the catheter which is rare . I was afraid if hemodialysis but I’m going really well on it and I don’t miss the drain pain I used to have on pd. I hope your spouse journey on pd is painless I hope they get on transplant list soon

Thank you for the welcome. My husband definitely says he has pain with draining but not all the time. So far, each month seems to be improving for him. Glad you are doing well on hemodialysis and hope you continue to tolerate it without difficulties.

Welcome to the community! My spouse was placed on emergency hemodialysis and then transitioned to peritoneal dialysis. During all of that, he managed to get on the transplant list and received his gift exactly a year after being on dialysis. He happily accepted a kidney that came with a few issues. He's now three post transplant and the kidney has been working beautifully. Very grateful for our gift. I hope your spouse receives a kidney too - sooner than later!
