Do you get back pain when you sleep while you are dwelling? Are there certain tricks you have found that works for you? I can sleep only about 4 hours at a time, then I get really back pain and have to sit up for a while to let it pass.

How long have you been on PD? My guess would be your fill volume maybe to much for your body. When you fill your peritoneum it is full and pushing up against something? Did you ever have back problems? Possibly talk to your PD nurse or nephrologist about doing less fill volume and more cycles? Of course this may extend your treatment time. Good luck!

I haven’t been on PD for too long... about 6 weeks . Discussed today with nephrologist and they are trying a smaller volume (1.5 l vs 2) to see if that will help reduce stress on back .

Hello, ive been doing pd at night for almost 5 years. At first having pain and then always setting off the alarms was my problem. I found that if I lay on my left side to drain and fill then it helped to not set off the alatms and I didnt wake up with pain. I also dont sleep on my back. I sleep on one side or the other. I have pretty much trained myself to sleep on left side. I hope you find something that helps but I would Definately talk to your doctor about this.

I am also a side sleeper. Usually prefers to sleep on right side but there’s where my exit site is. Is it ok to sleep on side with exit site? I woke up once with blood around my exit site and that freaked me out and I stopped sleeping on my right side.

yes I do have some back pain. I recently had to increase my fill volume from 1600 to 1900 to try to pass adequacy (started to fail about 6 weeks ago once I lost residual kidney function). I haven’t found any good solutions other than taking Tylenol and using a heating pad prior to filling up. I still have trouble sleeping flat with the new volume. Hope it will improve.
