Hello Astridstuart,

Welcome to the NKF Kidney Dialysis Community! Organ rejection is a biological reaction that occurs in people who have undergone transplantation. The body is made to recognize it's self, when an organ from another person is transplanted into you, your body sees it as an intruder and attacks it. Very strong medications called "immunosuppressants" help to prevent rejection by decreasing the body's ability to protect itself. These drugs have to be taken by the recipient of an organ for the life of the transplant.

Best wishes!
