PRAL Diet

Due to CKD level 3b and high acid in blood, may Doctor put me on Allopurinol , a gout medicine , and to watch my high acid intake food.
Hello Savio 79. Yes the PRAL is a big help to CKD. Acid harms our kidneys. Acid is in animal protein mainly meats and even worse in cheeses. I was surprised by cheese myself. Food low in acids such as fruits and veggies don't harm our kidneys. I'm a Vegan and eat only whole foods and no animal protein hoping to keep dialysis and transplant at bay for as long as possible. My eGFR is 10.9 so we'll see what happens. I know there are some people on here who also folllow the PRAL diet with great success. Wishing you well. Here's a useful site about PRAL eating. Hope it helps! thekidneydietitian.org/pral/
Savio79 In brief, YES YES YES 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
For any patients with a renal impairment, maintaining an appropriate acid–base, is vital - to slow down disease pregression.
The Dietary Acid Load (DAL) is a measure of the acid load derived from diet, taking into account both:
1. Organic Acids from foods which are metabolized to bicarbonate and thus have an alkalinizing effect; and
2. Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) from food components such as -
■ protein
■ potassium
■ phosphorus
■ calcium
■ magnesium
These are all "RED FLAGS" for any renal patient, to prevent Metabolic acidosis (MA) - excess build up of acids in the body.
MA, is a known complication of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which results from an imbalance and/or higher acid load and excretion, ultimately contributing to faster CKD progression, and loss of Renal Function.
thanks...
