Experience with removing Polycystic Kidneys

Hi Everyone, I am hoping to hear about your experience with having your Polycystic Kidneys removed. I had a kidney transplant three years ago and I was hoping my kidneys would shrink down and I would not have to worry about having them removed. Unfortunately mine are not and might be continuing to grow, but I have no way of knowing because the ultrasound tech can't even get a full size measured of my kidneys. I am 38 and don't want them to become too large or complicated to remove later.

I am afraid to have them removed due to a bad experience when my mother had one of her kidneys removed to make room for her transplant in 2010. I am hoping to hear from others about how the experience was for them. What was the reason you went ahead and decided to have them removed?

Thanks for your input!
