Blueberries?

I just got labs done, and while I was gone, my granddaughter put away my grocery order. She was surprised by how many blueberries I had ordered, fresh and frozen. My labs were pretty good, creatinine .92, eGFR over 60, up from the 50s a few years ago. I wondered whether anybody else eats blueberries or other dark berries as a staple of their diet. Maybe they are of special benefit to the kidneys?

Yes, blueberries have antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory properties also. Good to hear your egfr up from before.🙏I eat fresh, organic when I can find them. Not on my daily diet though, unfortunately.

Blueberries and Strawberries are great Kidney Fruits...some fruits can be very high in Potassium...but these two are not and have great anti toxins qualities...they are usually welcome on most Kidney Diets

Blueberries are an excellent diet choice for anyone struggling with weight and/or diabetes - big drivers for CKD. Blueberries are very low in sugar and carbs as are most "berries". It's one area in the fruit world where the plants haven't been manipulated into excessive sweetness to satisfy western obsessions. Enjoy!

Yes, eat blueberries almost everyday. And, often eat strawberries, blackberries and raspberries...sometimes hard to keep them fresh, but blueberries keep longer. Also, have been including chia seeds and just recently introduced small amount of flax seed.

I just finished a 2-year study for the Alzheimer’s Association & berries are especially good for brain & heart health. I try to eat oatmeal most days a week & use frozen wild blueberries in my oatmeal. As a bonus, they are also beneficial for people with CKD.

I eat blueberries and strawberries regularly. However, there has been no improvement in kidney function which has slowly been dropping. I also have high protein in the urine and my nephrologist recently added eplerenone for it along with olmesartan. Both lower bp, but these days my no is already on the lower side after years of being high. I will keep eating the berries in the hope that they help.
