Diagnosed Jan. 2022; egfr 55 at that time, Symptoms: high bp, recurrent UTI's (once yearly since 2021). BP up now, trying to get under control again. On beta blocker and ARB now, but info I've read (Mayo Clinic) suggest BB and ARB combined use less effective for hypertension. No reported adverse reactions from combined use Metoprolol & Losartan, but would prefer using just ARB since it and/or ACE are first-line tx. Anyone else using BB/ARB without adverse effects and good bp control?
Awaiting f/u appt. with PCP & Nephrologist. I know I need their medical advice, but still interested in knowing if anyone on this site facing similar issue with bp? I've learned to ask many good questions of my doctors since joining this group and reading your posts. Thank you.

I’m surprised that you already have a nephrologist at stage 2. Most people have no idea they even have an issue with their kidneys at that stage. As eGFR of 55 is dipping into early stage 3 it’s great that you’re taking action now. Everyone is so unique regarding their mix of pharmaceuticals that you really will have to leave that one up to the professionals. There are four different types of drugs for hypertension and it’s very common for nephrologists to use more than one. Beta Blockers slowdown and regulate your heart rate and aren’t included in the four types of drugs for hypertension. Best to wait for your appointment
Thanks for feedback. Yes on proteinuria with last UTI Dec. 7, '23. I was diagnosed with PSVT's so opted for Metoprolol to regulate heart rate. BP decreased with use. Was on Losartan 25mg daily prior to taking Metoprolol, but several bouts hypotension, arrythmia's changed my choice.Cited SE's w/Metoprolol use include hair loss/thinning. I've had that.
ACE/ARB's are first-line I know. Just trying to see if other's having adequate effects with combination of BB & ARB's, and SE's if any. I have f/u appt. w/pcp & Nephro.
I began having s/s hypertension early where NEVER had high bp before, frequent urinating, sleep problems, etc. plus my pcp did EGFR and saw 55 result. I'd already had dialysis 12 years before, so things just started going downhill. Early action/early dx has been helpful
Do you have protein in your urine? That's a big red flag with ckd. Losartan/lisinopril usually prescribed. I'm at stage 2 and take 50 losartan, 5 amlodipine. Dr. wants losartan 100 and ax the other. I think Amlodipine works better for my bp than losartan. Also, I've tested positive for uti for the whole past year. There are studies that those w/proteinuria can skew blood results to say positive so they are just monitoring it. As long as the the uti numbers stay low (bacteria etc.) in urine test then they leave it alone. Antibiotics aren't good for ckd. I really guess it depends on if you have any other conditions that need to be treated as to what they prescribe.
Yes on proteinuria with last UTI Dec. 7, 2023.Are you having good results with current meds for bp control?
I want to go back to using just Losartan. It has many beneficial effects for ckd. NIH article I just read, showed results from study with adults 65-85. Bottom line, ARB's slow down progression CKD overall, decreased proteinuria.
Metoprolol helped bp & HR till last Sept., but arrythmias still frequent.
Also read Mayo website, combined use BB & ARB not usually prescribed or recommended.
I see pcp/Nephro in March & May, so will review with both.
