Is there any risk of damaging kidneys for a stage 3 CKD patient in taking the topical treatment EFUDIX 5FU in order to treat Actinic Keratosis on the scalp?

Good morning,. No. I was prescribed it at Stage 4 for the same reason several years ago. My gp is always super careful about what he prescribes me because if the kidney issues and I trust his judgement. Hope this helps x
I have been in Stage 3a CKD since 2003. In 2008 I was prescribed Efudex to treat Actinic Keratoses on my forehead. I used the topical Efudex cream for two weeks and it seemed to remove the actinic keratoses areas. My eGFR remained the same as it was before I started the Efudex treatment. Then in 2008 the crusty skin patches on my forehead came back, and I was again prescribed Efudex to treat them. My eGFR was again pretty much the same before and after treatment (54 before and 53 after). in July this year my dermatologist suggested that I have some actinic keratoses on my forehead removed with liquid nitrogen- but I have had other skin issues treated with liquid nitrogen in the past and it left a very visible white scar after the skin heals. So I requested to use Efudex again since I had used it before and knew how it would affect me. I have not had my eGFR tested since completing the Efudex treatment this time but my forehead no longer shows the odd patches of skin. However at the most recent appointment the dermatologist said that treatments with Liquid nitrogen have improved since I had the treatment which left the white scars. She removed a spot of actinic keratosis from the back of my right hand with her spray bottle of liquid nitrogen. The skin has healed smoothly there - but is visibly lighter than the surrounding skin. If the actinic keratoses return to ny forehead in the future, I will try the Liquid nitrogen to see if it has permanent effects since the Efudex does not seem to prevent the spots from returning. I may have been one of the patients that Efudex does not affect adversely, because it does have negative affects on some patients according to this Phase 4 clinical trial article :
