I had a creatinine test on 9/2/2022 and another done on 9/7/2022. The results of the first one was 1.6 and the second one five days later 1.85. Why should there be this increase? I did have meat the night before the second test. Could this effect the numbers?

Rise in creatinine over five days
Hi Hair1972,
My creatinine was fluctuating very highly each month. 3.2 to 3.65 and my neph said that 0.5 fluctuation difference is ok. It was like that until I put myself on very low protein diet, VLPD, then it became stable. So in your case the jump was 0.25, but what is important in is to keep watching and see if it will go up and down or it will keep going up. The later is the serious situation and hope it will not be your case.
Thanks for your response.
that does not seem statistically significant. Esp since you ate meat.
Your creatinine increase of 0.2, can be caused by a lot of things. Sometimes it just can be lab error. More than anything you could be low on your fluid intake. Having a protein rich meal the night before, stress, and exercise can all do it also. My money is on your being a little dehydrated. If you are really concerned, have your nephrologist order your labs again in a week. In the meantime, be mindful of your fluid intake and stay hydrated. Chances are your numbers will be back to where they were.
eGFR comparisons over a short period of time aren't really all that helpful. Level of dehydration, what you recently ate and other factors can impact your score. CKD is only diagnosed after eGFR scores remain low after a longer period of time.
