immune suppression during Covid is scary

Anyone else feeling like Covid is not over for them yet? I’m still working from home, avoiding public and crowded places, ordering groceries. Am I being overly cautious? Everyone has stopped wearing masks so for me, it’s gotten even more dangerous out there. Yes, I’ve had 4 shots but they don’t really know how much protection you get from the vaccine if you’re immune suppressed.

Ugh....I just picked up Covid probably catching flights at the airports. My variant is probably Omicron BA.5, the most popular one spreading around right now. Apparently, the standard Covid vaccines (set of 4) don't work well, if at all, with this variant. My symptoms are very mild at the moment - a cross between allergies and cold. It's clearly a very catchy virus...I took all sorts of precautions (also been vaccinated). I don't know what to tell you - it's a personal awareness and personal decision as to how to protect yourself. I'm a rather restless person and let myself run down on occasion. And that's when I catch stuff! But my hubby, with the kidney transplant, is an easy going individual who gets quality rest and so on. He rarely catches anything! He did catch one cold last year and he sailed through it smoothly - only taking a decongestant here and there with the approval of his transplant team. No adjustment of his immunosuppressants needed. And he has yet to catch Omicron. However, I do know both of us will will be first in line to get the new upgraded vaccine when it's in the stores here. And we will continue wearing masks in public, etc. Neither of us wants or enjoys getting sick - be it a cold, a corona virus, a flu virus, etc. We want to live life safe and well. In my opinion, it's a balancing act between your physical concerns and self awareness of your mental needs and behaviors in general. Speaking only for me and my hubby, it's very clear to me that keeping yourself in tip-top form helps too - don't run yourself down or you'll likely catch everything. I worried my hubby would be getting sick far more than me; well it's exactly the opposite. Sending you good luck your way in finding a satisfactory way to live in this Covid world that gives you peace of mind.

I have 4 shots . I have Lupus and stage 3 A kidney disease.

For myself the shots work well 2 times now when I have picked up Omicron all I get is very fatigued for 2 days and sneeze then I am back to normal by day 3, so no big deal .

The Phizer vaccine itself has put me into Lupus flare for 6 months which is no fun ,but just in the last week finally coming out of it .

I presume you reported the lupus flare side effect?

Pfizer vaccine #1 flared my wife's Small Fiber Neuropathy (which she was unaware of) from an hour after the vaccination in Dec 2020 to date. Pain Pain Pain. Reported the side effect to no effect. She was allowed by a specialist to have a second injection, this time it was the J&J since mRNA caused so much trouble. Now advised to take no more injections. I was wondering if Novavax would be safe. But her antibodies which were over 2500 a year ago are still high at 660 this week.

The best solution for the situation with COVID is to be proactive. Keep doing the things that you are doing and stay safe. It just takes a little effort to be careful. And yes, it is scary but so are many things in life. Don't let it get you down.

I don't think COVID is over for anyone.

I agree. It will become similar to the flu, where we get our shots yearly, avoid others that have it, etc.😔

I AM TAKING HYDROXYCHOROQUINE AND STARTED IT AFTER A CRUISE IN FEB OF 2020 AND I TAKE ZINC TOO AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH COVID. VERY SICK ONCE WITH A NEG TEST AND THATS ALL. I NEVER TOOK THE VACCINE. I AM AN ER RN FOR 30 YEARS AND WORKED H1N1 TOO AND NEVER GOT IT. LUCKY WITH THAT ONE. RETIRED NOW SO HOME MOST OF THE TIME. WE ALL HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH COVID IN OUR OWN WAY . I WAS AFRAID OF THE VACCINE I HAVE SO MANY ISSUES AND FELT IF I TOOK IT IT WOULD DO MY IMMUNE SYSTEM IN. JUST STAY SAFE EVERYONE . SO MANY THINGS COMING ACROSS OUR BORDER NOW WITH PEOPLE FROM SO MANY COUNTRIES . I THINK WE WILL SEE MANY DISEASES WE HAVE NOT SEEN FOR MANY YEARS OR MAYBE NOT AT ALL.

I did all the right things, vaccinated, masked when out among others, however my husband went to a wedding in another state July 1 and brought it home to me. I was sick as a dog, fever, chills, everything but losing my smell and taste. He had "allergies". I'm stage 4 not on dialysis or transplanted. If you share a house with someone who doesn't follow all of your precautions then you may still catch it. I have a wonderful GP who knows I have kidney disease so right off she had me get monoclonal antibodies which probably lessened my symptoms.

I think that everyone has to do what they think is right for them, regarding COVID. We all have to listen to our doctors and their advice, but in the end it's you that have to decide. So far, I have been able to avoid catching COVID. I have been vaccinated, double boosted and have had EVUSHELD.

Not only is Covid not over but now we have monkeypox added to the mix. I’ve had all my boosters but my county is back into the high risk category so I wear my mask all the time. I more cautious about sanitizing my hands and not buying clothes right now. It’s possible I’m overreacting but I don’t know that I want to let my guard down either. No one here wears masks but I’m not worried about them. Continue to do what your are comfortable with and stay healthy.

There seems to be more and more evidence that the more vaxes you get the more your immunity is suppressed, or more likely, destroyed. Search on antibody dependent enhancement. ADE. Don't expect to really understand it, but if you do, you have my admiration. Just read to get the basic idea, which I encapsulated in my first sentence. Many are now using the term "VAIDS", to describe the dynamic, but ADE is the more proper term. The more you know. See also how many times has Biden, wtih his 4 shots, gotten "covid" now? yeah. There you go. originalText

Biden isn't getting new Covid, he is getting rebound from the Paxlovid which is a common side effect. It's not the same thing at all.

I wear a mask everywhere outdoors and I'm amazed that no one else does,. However, I have no problem putting mine on. I also use hand sanitizer on grocery carts, my hands, and whatever I'm touching when I'm outside. We all have to do what we have to do to keep ourselves as safe as possible. Its dreary that this Covid won't go away as it seems as if it never will. As someone also said, we now have monkeypox. What I'm afraid of with this is that the country is not taking it seriously and we'll get into a lot of trouble once it starts spreading rapidly.

I have an autoimmune disease as well as Stage 4 CKD. I take the precautions I can like masking and washing my hands.

I don't overly worry about it. I try to reduce the stress level in my life, and I feel like worrying about Covid will just lower my immunity even more and make me more vulnerable from the stress.

You're taking all the steps you can, but you still need to live your life.

Best wishes.
