Yet more antibiotics.

Hello - I wonder if anyone can assist. My house is looking like a pharmacy. After being told last week there was no uti and it was clear - I took my latest sample to be tested on Monday and got a call from the docs this morning to say the infection was back. He has issued yet another prescription for antibiotics so this is the 6th one I have tried since November 2021. I do not know what else to do except perhaps take a continuous low dose of antibiotics to keep this infection down. Has anyone else been in this situation and has got any tips. Its really beginning to get to me now and I never seem to recover from these uti which is what caused the damage to my kidneys in the first place - thanks for reading.

I would consider natural treatments eg drink cranberry juice regularly. You could see a naturopathic practitioner that specialises in women's health and/or Urinary system.

I have chronic urinary infections...I have tried natural remedies to no avail. I have to take a daily antibiotic for suppression. I am stage three ckd and it is what it is. I don't have high BP or diabetes so that's good. I am eating a plant based diet almost exclusively and drink copious amounts of water. Good luck to you on finding out what works for you.

I don’t recall your history, but I had a congenital blockage in a ureter causing constant UTIs. I was pregnant when they diagnosed me, but had to wait to get damaged kidney removed. So they put me on macrobid antibiotic daily, and it helped. They also diagnosed through IVP intravenous pyelogram test, have you had your ureters imaged with something other than ultrasound to look for anomalies? If they grow a culture of the bacteria, they’ll know what antibiotics will work and can stop guessing. I suspect you’re missing a proper diagnosis if the utis caused damage to your kidney—don’t let it keep happening. I’d see a specialist or get another opinion. In the past, I had to do a 2 month course of antibiotics with otc goldenseal and echinacea 500mg because it was recommended and it worked, finally, but that may not be appropriate for your situation. You also may wish to get a clean sample from bladder via catheter because if no infection, then the bacteria could be on skin and not the urinary tract or bladder. It surprised me when this happened more recently to me! Mystery. It did go away without more antibiotics though… best, Adrienne

My mom had something like that...finally went to a Uralicist who fixed the issue.

Have you gone to a urologist? I was having a similar problem with UTI's. He put me on a daily antibiotic for six months. He had said that sometimes you are not on the antibiotic long enough to really cure the UTI.

Hello thank you for your reply. That will be my next course of action - it was mentioned that I might have to have a continuous low dosage for a few months.
