Good morning all, I have a question for everyone. Has anyone been prescribed almodipine for bp? My new PCP has just changed my bp Med from lisinopril to almodipine and I wondered if anyone here has had any experience with this Med. Thank you, I always appreciate all of your advice and experience. God bless ๐๐ป
Almodipine: Good morning all, I have a... - Kidney Disease
Almodipine
Hi I have been on 10mg daily for 5 years and had no serious issues with it. Be prepared for swollen ankles it โs main side affect !
I've been on 5mg Amlodipine for just over a year. I haven't got swollen ankles, but I don't think my gut likes them.
I was on 2.5mg of amlodipine for two years and my nephrologist just raised it to 5. No swollen ankles at all. I take it at night because I take another PB med in the morning and this keeps my BP nice and stead and low. It does help me sleep too. It does not make me pee any more than I already do because it is not a diuretic BP. Your BP raises normally through the day and this method of taking BP meds at night is now being written (evidence based) up as an effect method. Just make sure the BP med is not a thiazide or has a diuretic.
I'm on 5mg, no problems. I'm also on Micardis, 80 mg
My doctor also recently put me on amlodipine, started with 5mg, but I also take 20 mg of Lisinopril & 2.5mg Carvedilol twice a day. Had no problems, however I still had high BP so she upped it to 10mg amlodipine and after about 3 weeks my ankles started to swell bad and I did not like that so went back to 5 mg's along with the 2 other meds and BP has been ok again. Other than that, no issues.
Hey, Iโve been on amplodapine for about 6 months now, has worked well for me as my bp is better!
Lisinopril used to make me cough. I have been on 10 mg amlodapine for years and have had no problems. I get occasional swollen ankle when it a hot day or when I have been sitting at my work desk all day without much movement.
Thank you so much. Iโm glad itโs working for you and that you donโt have too much swelling. I hope it works as well for me and that my lisinopril cough goes away. God bless ๐๐ป
Coughing is side effect of Lisinopril. I am on Amlodipine again...5 mg. Just had a kidney transplant Jan 25 and was told I had an AFib event during surgery. Now taking Amlodipine, Eliquis and Metoprolol tartrate. Only have had 2 AFib issues in my life (66 yrs old now). One in 2019 caused by low electrolytes.
Iโve been on Amlodapine for a few years now. No issues noted. My nephrologist is aware of all my meds.
I'm on it as well as three others for bp but I've never had any problem with it other than sleepiness .
I was on it briefly about two years ago. My feet and ankles became so swollen within a short time that I could hardly walk and couldnt wear shoes. While on this medication I was also put on Hydrazaline and either one or the combination got me to the ER because of severe urine retention and subsequently a bad infection. This was the first tine in my life I had swollen feet and ankles and it was never determined which medication caused that condition. I also recall becoming quite tired and sleepy once I began taking these medications.
It is interesting to note from reading the posts on this issue that we are all different and can respond differently to various medications. It's best to keep this in mind when we put out questions to the community. So glad we have this forum to share our experiences and grow in knowledge.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Iโm so sorry that you had a very bad reaction. I hope that your bp is being managed well now. I will watch for swelling. I read that as a side effect also. Youโre right, everyone is different and how we are affected by medicines. This forum is a true blessing and I appreciate all of you. God bless ๐๐ป
Listen, it may have been the Hydrazaline or the combination of them that caused my bad reaction and not the amlodapine. I'm off both medication now and back on my Valstartan HCL plus Metoprolol and BP is doing well. Good luck with your medication.
I think I may ask my neph about taking Amlodipine at night. I'm on about 22 meds (post transplant) during the day and have trouble sleeping.
I was taking my lisinopril at night for years and combining it with long acting melatonin to help me sleep and finally realized that the combination and the naturally reduced bp at night made my bp go too low. My neph told me that very low bp can also damage kidneys. But you should definitely ask your dr. Youโre in my prayers. Iโm so sorry youโre on so many meds and that youโre having trouble sleeping. Long acting melatonin helps me but I donโt know if you can take it. God bless ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Chiming in here. I've taken 10 mg for 5 yrs. Once I had swollen ankles in the evening but gone the next day. Losartan is the one I hate - makes me so tired. But it's great for proteinuria!
My husband has been on Amlodapine for several years now and has no problems. Hope this helps.
Iโve been taking it for years. No swelling and it works great for my BP. I also take Cozaar with it. Itโs very kidney friendly.
I have taken Amlodipine for over 20 years and my blood pressure is in the normal range with no side effects that I can tell
I had problems with amlodipine.
Iโve been taking both of those for thirty years. No problems
I was given Calcium Chanel blockers and they were fine, but when they increased the dose my ankles blew up and I couldn't wear any shoes. My pharmacist said all the others would affect in the same way. I am now on Bisoprolol and ankles are fine.
Yes, I use Amlodipine and not sure if that makes the swollen ankles worse. I am told it can cause worse edema.
Thank you for your reply. It sounds like some people do have a problem with swelling and others donโt. But I will be aware. I hope you donโt have too much swelling. God bless ๐๐ป
No, I had lightheadedness and severe stomach cramps. I also fainted and had a few other weird symptoms. It made me feel awful.
Oh my, that is terrible! I pray I donโt have any of those problems. Thank you so much for letting me know. God bless ๐๐ป
Been on Amlodipine for 2 yrs now with no problems. Hope you find your solution.
Hi,
I went to the dentist for a check-up today. I now have slight gum over-growth which the dentist told me was due to the Amlodipine. Apparently its not a problem in my case, but she will keep an eye on it. x
Oh my, thatโs a new one I hadnโt seen. I hope it doesnโt cause any problem. Are you going to ask to change bp Med? Thank you
No, I think it is quite minimal, and I'll make sure I don't miss any dental check-ups. I don't think I'd consider increasing the dose though.
I'd completely forgotten I'd read about this when 1st prescribed. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Hi I've been on Amlodipine 5mg for 2 years and also Bisoprolol was taking both in the morning together with all my other meds'too many to list'. Found my BP getting too low and was advised to take the Amlodipine on its own at night and have had no adverse effects since. Has anyone else been pput on activated vit D, vit C and folic acid. All m prescribed by my Neph..
Yes, I had to go off it due to water retention in my ankles and feet. Suppose to be good for CKD but I was so uncomfortable. My cardiologist prescribed me Bystolic. This is good for BP but not suppose to help protect the kidneys as much as the other ACE inhibitor medications.
I was put on amlodipine several years ago for about one week. I had a reaction to - shortness of breath, so we switched. By the time I got my kidney transplant last July, I was on 4 BP meds - Carvedilol, Losartan, Doxazosin, and Torsemide. What has amazed me is that following my transplant, I only take one BP med, Carvedilol, and the dose I take is 1/2 what i took pre-transplant.
I take Amlodipine and Ramipril and luckily I am fine.
