Excuse me for my English as its my second language. Hope you will understand me.
My mother was diagnosed with a kidney failure few years a go, but the GFR goas up and down for her, last September it was 14, and last month it goas up to 20 “ not sure what is the couse of that but it is good for her”.
The doctors approved her for a living kidney transplant “ as iam her son wanted to donate for her”.
But she has high antibodies againest me. As i remember its 97% the doctors explained to us that iam a positive crossmatch and they recommended the “Kidney Paired Doner” or a plasmaspheres.
I believe the KPD can takes years for us , as we are not US citizens. We came for the treatment only.
Some doctors said we may go for a plasmasphers to reduce or take off some of antibodies and make the transplant for her. Some of them refused this option as her body could make a new antibodies after the transplant and reject the kidney.
She has some other midical issues such as “thyroid, heart, diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol” thats what i can recall.
So we are trying to provent her from dialysis which i am afraid thet will make things harder for her.
Doas anyone had the same situation?
Not sure which option we can go for?
I am seeking for some information that could help me decide and explain to her.
Regards

Salaam, you are in the wrong part of the world! I hate to say this ( we are US citizens) & recently came back to get my son better treatment, that was the mistake of a life time.We live in Singapore , that’s were you should be . Health care is expensive ( just like in the US) but I must say both doctors & hospitals are much more effecient.
I hate to say this but diabetes is the culprit that ruins everything. My late husband Nabil had all the problems your mother has, my son is a dyalysis patient & it is not working well for him, while dialysis for most people is life saving it creates feelings of doom & other side effects.
Yes you are right to try to avoid it.
Maybe by trying to treat the diabetes which is the culprit that affects the heart & blood pressure. Maybe controlling diet. Middle eastern people eat far too much meats , cook with tomatoe paste & lots of ghee & butter. Limiting intake of protein & milk products is also advisable.
It’s difficult to change an older person’ s diet but with great effort it’s possible. Lots of luck enshallah
If you ever make it to Singapore look for Dr Akira Wu , he is the only nephrologist who performs kidney transplants & treatment. He’s at mount Elizabeth ( orchard) hospital.
Salam Samia, Thabk you for your reply and the valuable information, i have found the contact details for Dr. Akira Wu, and sent him an email. Looking for his reply.
Good day I have high antibodies too I been on the transplant list fir almost a year. I have been blessed that five people try to give me a kidney but unlucky cause none of them match cause if my high antibodies . I have one that may be interested in a pair exchange but that person has some health issues was told to try again in six month. So if they do decide then the transplant team will find best who they will match and look out for me who I would match best. Not sure about them removing the antibodies none of my team recommended that to me but I have read about it. Right now I’m just in a waiting game like your mom if you are able health wise the pair exchange may be the best way to go because they will look for the best match for your mom
Hi, Thank you for your reply it does support me, i was the one of my brothers that matched my mother blood type thats why I volunteered to be the doner, we dont have the exchange program back in my home country, and if we decided to do the exchange program i belive it will take years for us to stay in the US.
I found this reply in another post. I think it was in reply to you.

Hi everyone of this community, just couple of months ago I had gone through live kidney transplant and now under isolation for 3 months to avoid infection.Cross match is always better and before renal transplant antibody test conducted .so no need to fear.but before transplant fitness test of donar and recipient done and if found fit renal transplant process done."
Hi there, i have gone through the evaluation but mostly the doctors recommended the exchange program, also for the exchange thay explained to us that she will have some king of treatment for the antibodies. Thanks for your reply 🙏
