Antibodies from covid vaccine

Hi everyone, hope everyone had a good Christmas and new year!

We recently done a trial in the uk to test our antibodies after our 3rd covid vaccine for people who have had Kidney Transplants

The results came back today. Me and my friend who’ve both had kidney transplants the same week both have 0 antibodies.

Has anyone else had this/heard about it?

That's disturbing. Have you asked your doctor why they think that is?

We only got our results this morning, it was part of a study we were asked to do, I’ll be mentioning it to them when I’m back for clinic on the 14th

I bet these funny things happen a lot and don't get reported. SMH. Thanks for sharing. I have a friend here who ended up with an autoimmune reaction to the shot. She has blotches all over her skin that itch. She says that once she gets them healed, she breaks out again. She looks like a spotted leopard. And no one is making any talking about the people here who drop dead within 2 weeks to 3 months after the vax for strokes. There has been three. All with prior heart issues; but they were all young as in under 40. You are probably lucky that you do not have any anitbodies. Maybe the meds to take for your transplant suppress the protein. I am not antivax, but I am concerned. I don't think they are for everyone. There are studies out of Israel saying that multiple shot aka boosters will break down your immune system. I am a 3 hour flight from Japan. That country is not giving boosters to kids until they get more data---On the island of Saipan, we currently have 16 people hospitalized. Half are vaccinated and half are not. Omicron hasn't showed up yet. We are experiencing our first wave of Delta. They gave up the isolation and now kids are back to school face to face. Everyone I know in the states has had COVID. Fortunately, I do not know anyone who has died from it, including my 83 year old dad who got COVID AFTER the first shot. Then he got the second shot and that is when he reacted so badly that he did not know where he was for three days.

It's July 26, 2022 here and the BA5 variant is out there. I am double vaxxed and had one booster and I got Covid July 8. I'm stage 4, not on dialysis or transplanted yet. The issue I had with getting the recommended 2nd booster cause I'm over 50 is the vaccine was developed long before the most recent variant which is extremely transmittable. I will not take ivermectine as it is medicine for treating worms in people not a virus. I did get antibodies which lessened the severity.

this is probably due to the immuno supressants you have to take it may have interacted with the vaccine but you should let your Dr know or do another test in about 7 days it could be a false negative too. In the mean time protect yourself from Covid and the Sun.

HiIm from the uk; had 2 vaccines and developed v low antibodies (4.5 which are not going to do much against covid). Had my transplant 13 years ago. It is the immunosuppression you take apparently that stops the kidney rejecting but then because your immune system is lowered it isnt working as well hence the low antibodies. Getting my 3rd dose today but highly unlikely it will do anything. Just hoping that it gives some type of protection they have not yet found lol. You should have had a registered pcr arrive with a letter saying you are able to get antibody infusion or anti virals if testing positive for covid. That is our best hope. Let your consultant know if you have not had the pcr. Fingers crossed omicron runs the course and does as they are predicting. Stay safe best wishes. Ps Look at kidneycare website based in uk their website gives los of info on this

As others have commented, its likely due to the immunosuppressant drugs. Another transplant patient on here also reported a couple of days ago that they were "virtually unvaccinated". I think the answer may be vitamin D (with supplementation at relevant levels) both for covid protection eg increase T cells which research/recent events indicate are more robust than antibodies anyhow. Do you know if your T cell counts are OK?

The above also addresses common vit D deficiency of transplantees kidney.org/news/newsroom/nr....

NB Unlikely to get the above response from medics!

I am in a transplant group and out of everyone who got the shot, only one had antibodies other than me. I have antibodies but believe it’s because I had Covid last year. I did not get booster and am not going to

I must run in different circles as no family or friends have had COVID19 or tested positive. I'm on dialysis, been vaxed, half family vaxed half not. I still take great precautions and rarely go out but wear a mask and gloves use lots of hand sanitizer. We can only do as our own conscious dictates and accept what is laid out before us. Blessings

I am 22 years post transplant. My nephrologist ordered the COVID antibody test. I have had 2 shots of the Moderna. Test showed I did have antibodies. Don't know the level, since the lab doesn't do that here. From the advice of my doctor I did get a booster of Pfizer.

Yes. There have been several US studies and articles. The anti-rejection drugs severely reduce vaccine effectiveness. This is why most transplant programs require people to have all vaccines before transplant. I'm only 59, but my Dr. just gave me my third dose of the pneumonia vaccine - which is usually given at 65. I'm trying to get on the transplant list.

There are several studies being done about this issue. I'm part of a Johns Hopkins study to test this exact thing. The immunosuppressants can lower your response to vaccines in general. I had very low antibodies after one dose, but they went very high after my second dose.
