Did anyone else overdo it with the goodies this holiday season?

Well, here's the perfect excuse and I'm sticking with it. No, it was not that slice of lemon cake, or the chips, or even the chocolate covered pretzels. It's pure water. Just water, and bottled spring water at that.

And we thought CKD water weight gain was bad.

LOL!! I agree...it had nothing to do with the French apple pie, Mac n cheese, etc. on ChristmasDay...nor today's cheese & crax, nuts, homemade coffee cake (best ever...good thing I don't have the 60 yr old recipe that's been handed down to my friend), and certainly not the homemade chocolate brownie drowning in chocolate ganache! Oh my! It was a special tea afternoon with friends, and of course there must be edibles! As much as I enjoyed it all, I'm looking forward to eating cleaner...I'm too full! (altho my friend sent me home with a large piece of the coffee cake, and I WILL be eating it the next 2 days!). Back to reality tmrw...low-residue, low-protein, no salt, low-potassium...how boring! But my kidneys & tummy will be happier. Hello 2022! Have a terrific year ahead Sophiebun11. All good wishes sent your way. Thanks for all the support and especially the giggles...you're a fun gal. Please try & be safe!!

I haven't had coffee cake in years, and brownies with ganache, I'm drooling here.

The fun stuff tastes great in the mouth but the stomach pains later and the inflammation are enough to almost think twice next time. Not quite though. But it is time to get back to clean eating until the Easter bunny drops off some chocolate treats!!

What about Cupid?

OMG How could I forget Cupid?

Which reminds me I need to order some heart/valentine's compression socks!!! Thanks.

I better get bunnies while I'm at it. If I find bunnies without eggs I'll wear them year round!!

It has to be the water. Not the cheese, nor the crackers or chips... I agree. I felt terrible the day after I made homemade Alfredo with broccoli for Christmas dinner. It was out of this world, but oh so rich. I went back to my diet and working out. It is amazing to me that something I detested, working out, is now a requirement for feeling good. Happy New Year, Sophie and thanks for the joy you bring us.

Happy New Year to you Bassetmommer. I agree, working out is well worth the effort, it makes us feel better. Sometimes it takes real willpower to get started but I'm always so happy afterwards.

This year I forgot to have some melted Brie on French Bread. Oh well, there's always next year. It's my usual Christmas treat. I guess the lemon cake filled in for the Brie this year.

Your Alfredo sauce sounds divine, but I'm sure it was rich and delicious!!

I agree, for the most part I've been doing great, re food. But every time I stray it seems as if I feel worse than the previous time. I think I'm getting used to the "plain" eating.

I think that is the case with me too. Plus the bad stuff causes my autoimmune disease to have swelling and all my rings are tight as well as my jeans LOL I may have to wear size 6 during the holidays and not make myself miserable because I do need a treat occasionally.

So funny, Sophie! I actually did pretty well. I made one small batch of Peanut Butter Kisses cookies, but used gluten free flour and almond butter, and made them with less sugar for my husband who is diabetic. I put some in the freezer for later treats, when I realized he was helping himself to them a little more than he should. I had ham (twice) but only small portions. And I ate a baked potato. Oh, so good!!!! I had some major stress-producers going on for the last several weeks, and knew the old autoimmune stuff would rear its ugly head, so I tried pretty hard to stick to my basic eating plan.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Happy New Year Nana16. I'm sorry you're so stressed. Take a deep breath and think of ocean waves gently breaking. I once stayed at a hotel right on the beach, and we could just open the sliding door and 5 steps we were on the sand. It had a fireplace, so when I get stressed I think of the glow & crackle of the fireplace and the gentle rolling of the waves. I'm sure you have a calming memory too. Hope you can overcome the stressors so your autoimmune quiets down. There are so many CKD-ers in this community with autoimmune diseases. Take care.

Thank you for your kind words. I have a lot of strategies for dealing with stress, and use them every day. One big thing is all worked through and nearly out of the way. And I didn't have too big of a flare, so all is well.
