Patient doing fine in spite of Kidney readings alarming since 3 months

HI

My cousin got sick very weak 3 months back. When she was tested Hb was 7 eGFR 5 and creatinine serum at 93

Nephrologist decided to try medicine treatment instead of dialysis as against her readings she was apparently looking better

She got blood and medicine and kidney diet

Hb came to 11 however the eGFR and creatinine serum remained constant even after 3 months

She’s otherwise looking fine walking around etc Doctor is also puzzled Now Hb has fallen to 10.2 maybe because she is strictly doing kidney diet

What to do?

The Hb equals Hb a1c? If so that is way too high. The problem is the renal diets tend to be carb laden as a resp8nse to cut down on the protien and phosphorous intake. So you need to come up with a blended diet which is lower protent AND lower carb, starches and fruits. It is doable I substitute zuchinni orand spagetti squash for any pasta. I dont eat bread. you have the duo fun task of getting that Hb down as well for high blood sugars cause or worsen disease. There are medications to take which are failing kidney safe. These are metabolized in the liver. Ir insulin is an option too. Also consult and endochronologist who can help you manage both concurring conditions as well as the current doctor's

In my opinion, you should be getting ready to go on dialysis. With numbers as low as this you shouls start a fistila or whatever way you choose to receive dialysis once you start it. I am not trying to be "down" about this but it is better to get ready for what is coming than not being ready for any of it before the time comes. I am surprised the doctor has not said to get ready to go on dialysis because I don't think you can come back from having such low numbers with the kidney's now. Which way to go I wish you the best and hope things get better for you.

You've said this so well. Indeed, the renal diet is carb heavy with its promotion of bread, sweet fruits and more. Diabetes is fueled by sugar and carbs as it goes about its mission, destroying blood vessels one by one inside the kidneys. A modified diet is important. Thank you.
