My wife has been diagnosed with a 5cm tumour on one of her kidneys. Waiting for a final CT scan of her chest to confirm, but so far, there's no spread to elsewhere in her body.
She has been given the option of partial or full removal of the affected kidney. Asked medics for guidance and they said it's a matter of personal choice.
Not sure which option to choose.

The surgeon didn't offer any pros and cons for each way? That seems rather strange. Unless they have concerns with leaving the one with the cyst there post surgery I can't think of a reason to remove the affected kidney. Just remember I'm not a medical professional and with the limited information you provided, that would be my choice.
I agree with Mr Kidney .... the surgeon should of given you pros and cons for the choices you have. I am waiting for my upcoming nephrectomy, my choices were made very clear. I would go back to the surgeon (urologist) and ask all those questions immediately. Good Luck!
Perhaps the most important question is how much function percentage he might expect her to have if you chose partial? What are the differences in procedure and recovery for total versus partial? Write it down or ask the dr to. Go look up any definitions you don’t know. Look up others’ experiences just as you have posted here on many sites, read thru them, so you can make an informed decision with your wife. Best
