Hello, has anyone ever seen a correlation with a decrease in GFR and taking Lisinopril? I have ckd stage 3.

Linsinipril and gfr
Hi Cbailey,
Welcome!
In response to your question regarding Lisinopril.
Although Lisinopril is one of the most widely prescribed medications to lower protein spilling and protect the kidneys in renal patients and also to many folks with high blood pressure, it is not for
everyone.
If you have concerns, I would give your pharmacist a call , look it up on Drugs.com and
discuss it with your doctor.
Your GFR can vary due to hydration, time of day, lab who spins it and more. Are you drinking enough water, eating a kidney healthy diet which is especially low in sodium and eliminates red meat? These are all good things to do to stabilize kidneys.
I haven't had an issue with it, but I know others who it didn't mesh with. Everyone is different. I do make sure that I drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Check it out and let me know what you come up with. I will be waiting to hear.

Thank you for your reply. I take a very small does of 5 mg. I just noticed that once I started taking it, my gfr did drop. It’s hard to tell if it’s just due to my kidney disease or do to the medicine. However, it did help my blood pressure almost immediately.
Hi Cbailey,I have been on Lisinopril for about 15 years and didn't realize this medication could also harm your kidneys until I really started researching things when my level dropped considerably in the last year. I've had some slight decline in function over probably at least 10 years and never was discussed that my med could be the issue. When I asked about it, I was told that it really was the best option of meds for me for both the high blood pressure and the CKD. I opted to try a different medication for awhile ( I requested it) to see if it made any difference in labs, however it didn't and the side effects were terrible. I'm now in stage 4 (GFR 19) but a kidney biopsy in January of this year showed I have IGA Nephropathy which is an irreversible kidney condition. Best I can do now is try to control my BP to stabilize the GFR as long as possible. Not sure if this was helpful for your situation, but Best of luck to you.
