Have diabetes & high blood pressure. Diabetes is under control (5.5 a1c). Got some new lab results today. Last tests were a month ago. Maybe you could help me figure out the results. My regular dr appt is on the 29th & the nephrologist is in a month. Talked to the nurse today , the kidney dr thinks my kidney related numbers are off because of the diabetes , but is going to do some more tests , including an ultrasound. My albumin is 5.4 / bicarbonate is 29 / BUN is 28 & was 49 last month / chloride is 94 / creatinine is 1.9 & was 2.2 last month / GFR is 40.5 & was 32 last month / hematocrit is 25.3 / hemoglobin is 8.7 & was 7.7 last month / phosphorus & potassium are both normal range / there is protein & blood in the urine (cannot see the blood , pee is foamy). Anyway , thought you might have some insight of whats going on from your experiences , as this is all new for me.

Hi and welcome to the community,
The best I can suggest for you to do is use labtestsonline.org Once there you can click on TESTS and enter the specific test you are concerned about and it will provide you with a short, simple explanation of each test. Start with any numbers that are outside of the reference range for your lab. Any questions you have then should be directed to your doctors. Something else I do that keeps me ahead of the physicians is that I use a spreadsheet. Once you have all of the hard copies for your previous labs set up a spreadsheet. Across the top, I list the name of the ordering physician and the date of the labs. Along the left side I list the specific tests. In each corresponding box I enter the results. If the number is higher than the reference range I highlight it in red. If it is lower than the reference range I color it in orange. If it is within the reference range I leave the number alone. The reason I do this is so that I can easily spot any trends with numbers outside of the reference range and ask the appropriate questions of the doctor.
This is really important for me because I also have T2D and HBP. Diabetes is controlled without medication and the HBP is controlled with meds. Those issues, along with my CKD are maintained with a kidney-friendly meal plan and an exercise regimen put together by my cardiologist and PCP.
I would wait to speak to your doctor, but it does sound like your numbers are improving. Foamy urine could mean that you are still spilling protein in your urine, indicating kidney damage. The website Mr Kidney always suggests is also very helpful.
