Plant based dialysis : Saw physician who... - Kidney Disease
Plant based dialysis
hi StarkironMan,
Do you have a specific question? Many people with CKD turn to plant based foods as they are easier on the kidneys. Depending on your stage and other medical information, this diet can be very beneficial in keeping the kidneys functioning. If you Google plant based diet for CKD, you will find a lot of information. Seeing a renal dietician is also a good idea. Diets should be planned for the individual to maintain. Speaking for myself, my diet is high in vegetables, no meat, very little chicken, and I do eat eggs and limited cheese. I do not eat bean and legumes because they are high in potassium. This is why you should have a dietician help with a specific diet for you.
I can't add much to what Bassetmommer has already said. In my own experience I switched to a fully plant based diet as a final roll of the dice 🎲 a few weeks before I started dialysis. It certainly made a huge positive difference to my blood results. Almost everything apart from creatinine was improved. But I found it very difficult to stick to and eating out was very difficult. I do think that if I had of started it when I was first diagnosed then I could have delayed having to go on dialysis. Diet is one of the most important weapons against kidney disease. The best thing your son can do is see a good renal dietician.
