Gross Intermittent Hematuria

Is it possible to have gross intermittent hematuria for more than 6 months with kidney stones - no pain or other symptoms

HI Agatagg,

Anything is possible. But yes, I had kidney stones for years. But I also had blood in my urine for months before the doctors did anything about it. They said it was because I was on blood thinners. But that was not true. It was because the prescribed medications I was on had damaged the kidneys and they were in big trouble. No one looked at my labs and that my GFR had crashed. (This was years ago before they had patient portals. Once I was taken off the meds, it cleared up. But I still had the kidney stones which lasted for several years.

Blood in the urine is a sign something is wrong. Have the doctor figure it out before more damage is done. It could be the stones, or it could be a UTI or something else like medications.
