Masking for covid19

I have cold. I started with hemodialysis and now use PD. I am having anxiety with this coronavirus. I have avoided physical contact outside my immediate family. In fact, my dialysis is at home. What do we know for sure? Will a mask be enough for us?

A mask for who? You or your family. Masks are not good protection because most people do not know how to use it or remove it. You have a cold. What would you have done in the past?

The symptom for corona virus is the body temperature over 100, and a dry cough. A cold has runny nose, and wet cough.

Wash your hands every time you blow your nose. Dispose of the Kleenex in a bag that only you will touch. Use a separate towel when you wash your hands. Use hot water and soap on dishes, glasses and utensils.

Stay home as much as possible. Distant yourself when out in public. Use sanitizer when you can.

Common sense, and what you should be doing anyways.

If you have a cold you should contact your Nephrologist to get advice as to proper steps. Until you are sure it is just a cold you should self quarantine from your family and yes I would wear a mask to avoid getting them sick if they have to care for you or assist you.

I understand your anxiety, kidmatrix. I share the same particularly when there are no clear symptoms. My confusion lies when I hear people who are asymptomatic, but have tested positive for covid-19 (as in the cases for several NBA players). As noted above, when clearer symptoms appear, it should be checked out. But what about when you don't have symptoms?

I do not know if a mask will be enough. However, a neighboring county has made it mandatory to wear one. The US Surgeon General has a video on how to make one. I think you could google the instructions. It's basically a 18"x18" piece of fabric. U can use an old t-shirt. I made two. And plan to make more.
