Your normal routine is what you should be doing for accurate results. Just remember that the labs drawn are but a snapshot of that moment. To get an accurate reading and have changes made based on those results a series of labs over a period of time will be needed to allow the physician to make a proper diagnosis. Some lab tests will identify a path for the physician to follow with additional testing to narrow their focus in making that diagnosis.

As for you, the best thing you can do for the 2-3 days before any labs are drawn are to maintain your normal exercise regimen, stay hydrated with water, don't binge eat, drink alcohol, keep to your routine as much as possible. If you weren't told to fast then it's okay to eat. If you aren't sure, call the ordering physician and ask if you need to fast. Some blood labs do require you to fast. It's also a good idea to let the person drawing the labs know that you haven't eaten yet and they can note that on your paperwork.

In my opinion, if you want a true reflection of what you are doing, do what you normally do. Then you will see if there is need for change.

Hello Groupmate! Lol! I have to laugh. Your post reminds me so much of myself and my sister! Whenever we have bloodwork coming up, we give ourselves a day or two to start “cleaning up”! Kind of in the same way we tidy up our houses when we know company is on the way for a visit! But in all seriousness, I have to agree with Mr. Kidney. Don’t fret. I would say, just keep your regular routine, because if you try to mimic something different, then your medical team won’t be able to give you a true and accurate picture of where you stand with your kidney function. And that wouldn’t be very helpful to you. Truthfully, I have found that sticking to a regular routine of a proper kidney diet, along with a good amount of daily exercise and sleep, and of course, drinking water, is the best way to get by on a day-to-day basis. As far as I’m concerned, after that, the rest is up to fate, I suppose. We just do what we can for ourselves for as long as we can. Good luck to you! Please keep us posted. God bless. 😊👍

Yes, a normal routine is what you should do. Don't do anything you don't normally do.

When I do my labs I try to always do them at about the same time of day.

I don't have to fast, so I eat a normal breakfast

Strenuous exercise should be avoided right before you have your labs done.

If you normally drink water in the morning, then do.

You want your lab results to be TRUE. So don't vary your normal routine.

Drink water and maintain a balanced eating schedule. Address stressors in life or else kidneys can get worse. Find ways to soothe and regulate your physiological. Cortisol is released by the adrenals which rests on top of kidneys. So soothe as much as you can. Address stressors in your life or just find a way to deal with it.
